+Warwagon MVC Posted July 17, 2014 MVC Share Posted July 17, 2014 What is the FileHippo Download Manager? The FileHippo Download Manager delivers software straight from our supercharged servers to your computer. The Download Manager allows us to use multiple network connections at the same time to guarantee you the fastest, safest delivery possible. During this process, the Download Manager may offer you other free applications provided by our carefully chosen partners. These offers are completely optional and you are not required to install any additional applications to receive the software you selected. What happens when I run the FileHippo Download Manager? After launching the FileHippo Download Manager from your Downloads folder, just double click on the file that will be clearly named and then follow the instructions. The Download Manager may show offers for other free applications and you get to choose whether you accept these or not. No offers are ever automatically installed without your acceptance. If you choose to pause/cancel the download, the Download Manager will place a shortcut on your desktop so you can resume this at a later time. What happens when I accept an offer? When you accept an offer, the application will be downloaded and installed on your computer. Please note that we screen all application offers to ensure they are safe and can be uninstalled easily. What information does the Download Manager collect? The FileHippo Download Manager does not collect personally identifiable information and adheres to the FileHippo Privacy Policy which you can see here. Do I have to use the installer? No. All FileHippo Installer Enabled products have a Direct Download Link that you can use instead of the Installer. http://www.filehippo.com/de/filehippo_download_manager
+LogicalApex MVC Posted July 17, 2014 MVC Share Posted July 17, 2014 Welcome to the new order... Where simple downloads of trusted apps from previously trustworthy sources are now laced with another layer of junk. Why can't companies just serve their own downloads directly and not outsource it to these sites who have no where to turn for a revenue stream? Thanks for the heads up. Max Norris
Ugh. Guess it was inevitable.. I'll keep using 'em though as long as the direct links stay, handy timesaver. After that though, buh-bye.

LimeMaster
That's utter crap! I always use FileHippo for older software releases on my VMs. Now I'm gonna need to have to find an alternative site that offers a similar type of service, which isn't exactly easy to find. :/

Luc2k
It seems, till now, it is optional.. My download button doesn't have the "Download Manager Enabled" part and links to the actual file. Maybe it's US only.

I'm in the US and I haven't seen the "Download Manager Enabled" part either, maybe it has to do with file size? What at filehippo is 500 megs? Got it, 3DMark06, still no file manager thing for me. +InsaneNutter MVC Posted July 18, 2014 MVC Share Posted July 18, 2014 i always want to know why most download "button" on most web sites are colored green? Green encourages people to subconsciously click the button. Changing the "add to basket" button from orange to green on our e-commerce website increased sales conversions significantly. Luc2k
Well, I'm seeing the download manager enabled button too, however there's a direct link download below it. It's a pity they went this way but it's still usable as long as the direct download is still there.
Guest
I almost got fooled by the green button, since they changed it to by default download the downloader. Sigh.

goretsky Supervisor Posted August 11, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted August 11, 2014 Hello, There's a bit of a difference between potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) and bona-fide malicious software (malware), which is why anti-malware companies categorize them separately. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky Yes, but they aren't taking "This junk seriously" until it's its on my default. WOW ... 320 people looking at this thread right now!
