HTC warranty: still valid?

Recommended Posts

I have a fault with my HTC One m7 (hardware) and want to RMA it. However, I have done the following to it;

Unlocked bootloader (via. HTCdev.com)

Custom ROM

Custom Recovery

Rooted

S-OFF

I have had a look at the warranty information for HTC devices on their website and can't seem to find anything to suggest my warranty will be void but I wonder if anyone can confirm this/has past experience?

Cheers

I'm fairly certain that one of the steps on htcdev.com is confirming that you've read a disclaimer that says that you understand by continuing with the unlock process you void the warranty. I could be wrong though plus it's been a while since I have rooted a HTC device, pretty sure that it will have though I'm afraid "/

EDIT: Just noticed that you have S-OFF and I'm pretty sure that with that you can return the phone to an "untampered" state which will show the device as never having been unlocked/flashed. If the warranty is voided by HTCdev then they'd have to check the IMEI to see if an unlock token had been generated for it. Again though, I'm not 100% on this so hopefully someone else can give you a more definitive answer. Best place to start would be xda-developers, you'll find all of the relevant information for returning your phone to an untampered state, etc, on there :)

Most companies will still give warranty but they look stricter at the hardware fault, if there is any indication a custom rom might have been the cause they will let you pay for the repairs, if it's something that's not really dependent on the software of the phone(dead pixels and such) they will repair it under warranty. Keep in mind that any additional costs made because of the custom firmware on it(employees who need to restore the firmware manually as example) will not be covered.

It all depends on the manufacturer and repair facility, I had multiple repairs under warranty while they phones were unlocked without a problem.(Sony, LG,HTC,Samsung)
