Debian boot hangs at nouveau INTR

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I tried to install Debian on my new system which has an Nvidia gtx750, but it can't even boot. It hangs at "0000:01:00.0: PMC - unhandled INTR 0x00040000'". I know I have to blacklist the Nouveau driver but I am a noob in linux and this makes this task a bit hard.

What can I do?

Here are the steps of my boot:

1. GRUB comes up

2. I select Debian (this is a windows 7/Debian dual boot setup)

3. It begins to boot

4. Stops at INTR

5. I am putting a 9mm on my temple... :D

Please tell me how boot into terminal or something to kill this driver. I have to use linux at work for research, but I don't even know how to boot directly into terminal.

Also, is there a good book you can recommend me to learn all of this stuff?

Thank you!

5.3.5. Blacklisting kernel modules

Sometimes it may be necessary to blacklist a module to prevent it from being loaded automatically by the kernel and udev. One reason could be that a particular module causes problems with your hardware. The kernel also sometimes lists two different drivers for the same device. This can cause the device to not work correctly if the drivers conflict or if the wrong driver is loaded first.

You can blacklist a module using the following syntax: module_name.blacklist=yes. This will cause the module to be blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.local both during the installation and for the installed system.

Note that a module may still be loaded by the installation system itself. You can prevent that from happening by running the installation in expert mode and unselecting the module from the list of modules displayed during the hardware detection phases.

[7] With current kernels (2.6.9 or newer) you can use 32 command line options and 32 environment options. If these numbers are exceeded, the kernel will panic.

Take it from here: https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch05s03.html.en
