Microsoft adds another feature to Cortana, Foursquare data now serves up recommendations

Earlier this year, Microsoft invested 15 million dollars into Foursquare and the fruits of that investment are starting to pay off as the data is now being integrated into Cortana. The feature is now able to pull in data from Foursquare to help suggest local places that you might enjoy visiting.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Cortana is able to fetch Foursqaure data based on your preferences, which allows for customized recommendations; you can add this to the growing set of features for the platform. Microsoft has already said that they plan to update Cortana at least twice a month and this is the latest feature to be introduced for the digital personal assistant.

Microsoft has also released a new advertisement that shows how Cortana bests Siri in many different ways and how the rapid pace of new feature additions is widening the gap between the two platforms. Cortana is designed to truly be a personal assistant where she can offer up information before you even ask, with local data from Foursquare now feeding into the platform, the recommendations she can make just got a whole lot better.

Because of Foursquare's massive database of user-centric data around local attractions and Cortana's knowledge of your habits and preferences, she can easily aggregate this information to give customized suggestions for places to eat or visit. It's a great use of both platforms and when they are combined, they are able to offer up smart recommendations that help to differentiate Cortana from other digital assistants.
