RATiO
We have three DC's running DNS lets call them DC1 (onsite) and DC2 & DC3 (both offsite at different locations) PC Clients get DC1 as primary DNS and DC2 as secondary DNS via DHCP DC1 is statically configured with itself as primary DNS and DC2 as secondary DNS DC2 is statically configured with itself as primary DNS and DC1 as secondary DNS DC3 is statically configured with itself as primary DNS and DC1 as secondary DNS My question is what is the correct way to configure the DNS settings on DC1, DC2 and DC3? And if a server is referring to itself should it use 127.0.0.1 or the network IP of the server?
+BudMan MVC Posted July 31, 2014 MVC Share Posted July 31, 2014 According to this loopback should be in there but not primary http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff807362%28v=ws.10%29.aspx Also since these are DCS they should not point to their own server as primary. fusi0n 1 Share
RATiO
In this scenario each server should point to another one as its primary. The secondary should be its own IP but not 127.0.0.1 Yes but which other server exactly should it reference? Or does it not matter?

+Cryton Subscriber² Posted July 31, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted July 31, 2014 The secondary should be its own IP but not 127.0.0.1 For its secondary DNS, why is using its own IP preferred over 127.0.0.1?
RATiO
OK so I am thinking of changing it to Dc1: primary: dc2, secondary: dc1 Dc2: primary: dc3, secondary: dc2 Dc3: primary: dc1, secondary: dc3
