nabz0r Veteran Posted August 3, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 3, 2014 Lol. Given the advice (most of which is great) in this thread, I think you know what to do next! Good luck, and enjoy ESET. (Y) If you had bad experience with them it doesn't mean they're bad, does it? ;) A company I consulted for, for couple of years and our users (3000+) all had Symanted Endpoint Protection installed and we have never heard someone had problem with that. On the other had my current company have F-Secure and this I can sure tell you it's a nightmare, not because I had problems with it but we had a lot of problems in our production environments and after troubleshooting we found out that it was because of this AV. And my recent problem was that it detected Google Chrome x64 exe file as a trojan when I tried to DL and install. lol Back to topic: ESET/NOD32 is a great AV and in my opinion number 1 (have it installed on 5 computers) but that is my opinion so good luck with it! goretsky and +E.Worm Jimmy 2 Share
Ambroos
Sorry Ambroos, have to disagree with you there :p No AV company has a spotless record when it comes to updates allthough ESET is a lot better than most (i think the last was just a high cpu usage one back in ~2011). They also implememted the rollback feature in v6 i think... ESET has the highest amount of VB100 awards of all antivirus vendors. And they're the only ones who haven't failed a single VB100 test in the last ten years. To me that's saying something. In other tests they also show they are significantly better in weeding out false positives. In AV Comparatives they're usually the only one of the 'top' AV vendors that makes it into the awards for least false positives. So yeah, excellent protection track record, few false positives, high performance, good configuration possibilities = something I'll gladly use over anything else. +E.Worm Jimmy, Radium, goretsky and 2 others 5 Share
Chicane-UK Veteran Posted August 3, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 3, 2014 I've been using ESET now for a couple of years. Honestly I wouldn't use anything else. Extremely unobtrusive, seems very fast & not resource intensive, and presumably doing a great job as I've not had a single malware or virus infection ever since I started using it. Fantastic product. goretsky, Raa and +E.Worm Jimmy 3 Share

Dane
Done! 2 year AV subscription. Now a couple years ahead wih no worries... :p I'll probably do this later in the month when it goes on sale again for the av. Too bad it doesn't go down to 50% as well. goretsky 1 Share
Raa
Done! 2 year AV subscription. Now a couple years ahead wih no worries... :p Great work! You've made an excellent choice. (Y) A company I consulted for, for couple of years and our users (3000+) all had Symanted Endpoint Protection installed and we have never heard someone had problem with that. Therein lies the problem perhaps - if you never hear of a problem, is it actually doing anything? I've seen this time and time again. Load up ESET and alerts all over the place! Scary stuff. goretsky 1 Share
primexx
I really like ESET but they're a lot more expensive than Kaspersky. I've never paid more than ~$20 for a 3pc 1 year licence of KIS. The brick and mortar stores around me have them on sale a few times every year, each, so there's always a chance to get a new copy for next year. And even if you miss all of it you can still usually get it on Amazon for about the same price year round. +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share

Can it be trusted? Phouchg 1 Share

Xerino
I think bitdefender is still doing their free 9 months promotion, jumped on that when I first heard about it on neowin, best AV I ever used
Dane
Kaspersky sounds like something Vladimir Putin sneaks on to your PC when you're not looking. Can it be trusted? I used to use it. It was good, the only issue I had was it seemed like it would slow everything down. Not sure why that is. Went to Eset, and not going back. 123456789A
Because obviously every UI had to look like a car stereo!? Maybe you can set the malware popups to shuffle or repeat.
+E.Worm Jimmy Subscriber¹ Posted August 4, 2014 Subscriber¹ Share Posted August 4, 2014 Hmm depends have been using Avast for years even though it had the ridiculous metal circular UI back then: After that it finally had a windowed UI but it was way too fancy and started blocking files I didn't want to. I still wonder what they were thinking when they made that ridiculous UI in the past :/ This is THE REASON I stopped using avast and went with Avira. Making this the Default look was so so wrong. I could not even explain my dad how to use it, when it auto-updated on him changing UI :x :x :x Now I am using ESET Nod32, paid, and I love it even better. Yearly price is pretty cheap, all things considering. I also Immunize with free Spybot - search and destroy! I used to use adaware too, but I wanted to limit the number of security programs to 2. spybot seemed the best at preventative immunization, and Nod32 at life protection.
