I'm thinking of getting these speakers. The reviews go all over the place. Anyone know anything about these? Or another recommendation?

I just want a good 2.0. I don't need the subwoofer. I keep my bass switch down all the time. My budget is around $100.

I'd highly recommend finding a store that has them on display and going there to test them out yourself.

I'm pretty sure I heard the T20s a few months ago and was impressed (much better than the [tinny-sounding] T10s).

I find a lot of reviews hard to trust these days.

If you do a google search for "audiophile 100$" (without quotes) you'll find large amounts of very different advice. It looks like you could get some passive bookshelf speakers with a small amp and speaker wire to get something that sounds decent. Some recommended the http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-B652-2-Way-Bookshelf-Speaker/dp/B002RMPHMU/ref=pd_sim_e_5?tag=hardfocom-20 - don't let the poor reviews deceive you, there was a defective batch of those but it's long been fixed. That's just an example to get you started, there are many many options once you start looking elsewhere than newegg.

Well, I did look other places, but Newegg had about the best deal.

Any reason I should go bookshelf over traditional ones?

The speakers you linked to are bookshelf speakers too, but they're active rather than passive, meaning they have they have a built-in amplifier. They just don't sound very good, like most cheap "computer speakers". You buy them for the convenience, not so much the sound quality. If you're willing to do some research, you can certainly find something that sounds way better for the price, but in your price range that'll likely mean passive speakers + a small amp.

Can I ask what else you would recommend for bookshelf ones? The only thing I recognize is PolkAudio. All others are alien to me.

Edit: also, you know any good amps?

These are fine for your budget. Just make sure that you order the Series 2. If your budget is 100.00 this is a pretty solid choice.

Corsair SP2500 - I own these and fully recommend them, and so does every single review of these on the internet. However, they're a bit above your price range.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 - I have owned a pair of these legendary speakers, and TBH, I think they sound way better than the Corsairs. You should be able to pick these up for around $100 on Amazon.

I would honestly not look at any other alternatives.

If you're looking to get some computer speakers, those Creative are very good; I've listened to them and they sound great for what they are - computer speakers.  Personally, I have (for my PC) a pair of Bose Companion II, and while I'm not really a fan of Bose speakers per se, they are great for my PC.  My home sterero speakers are Polk Monitor 40s, hooked up to my Onkyo TX313 A/V amp.  I also recently purchased the PSW10 subwoofer to go along with the monitors, and am very happy with the sound.  I've always like the sound quality of Polk speakers, and since my music collection is on my PC and comes digitally through my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card, it's great sound.

PolkAudio are good speakers..A friend of mine years ago told me that most American made speakers are good (Klipsch, KLH, Boston Acoustics, Polk).  Japanese speakers, not so much.  I have no problem buying an amp from a Japanese company, but would never buy speakers from say, Sony, for example.

Just my 2 cents.
