Changing ID on iOS

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have an iPod 4 with iOS version 4.3. I want to change my device account to a new Apple ID that I made, from a Gmail ID I made years ago. If I do that from my iPod is this going to affect my personal data like Apps and photos? Or will they remain unaffected and fully accessible?

Thanks.

If you're creating a new Apple ID, your apps on your iPod won't be affected but you may get prompted for the old Apple ID/password if you have auto updates on because your apps/purchase history won't be associated with the new account.

You can change your primary email instead and that will keep your purchase history.

Actually, don't just want to change the primary email. I have an iCloud ID for my iPad. And had this Gmail one for my iPod. I want to stop using the Gmail one so that it has nothing to do with my iPod, and instead have the iCloud one that I've already made.

So in case I do that, I wanted to make sure my data won't become inaccessible.

When you change IDs, personal information shouldn't change.. but, I would make a backup just in case.

It won't change, despite changing Apple IDs.

I have two Apple IDs - one for developer usage, and one for personal usage.

You can split your Apple IDs among services, as well (my developer Apple ID is not used with iCloud, for example).
