I've noticed Dock and Mission Control still show a solid black background... I figure that will be updated when Apple decides upon the final, default desktop picture.

They should have the same transparency effect as other UI elements.

Stupid question but.. I guess this is for Mac <-> iPhone only - you can't pair with an Android device and do this?

I meant to refer to their System Prefs icons.

I haven't tested it but can safely assume this feature doesn't and never will exist.

I'm also wondering whether the black is a placeholder until the final OS X Yosemite default desktop picture has been decided on.

And what about the disk icons? I'm really hoping they'll be updated as well.

A lot of system icons are getting updated, I agree that I'd love to see the disk icons get some love. Have they changed at all since 10.0? But I would imagine they'd be among the last things to get updated.

Is this newer than what was released just a few days ago, or are we talking about the same build?

Thanks! so if you signed up for the Beta program and installed the build that was released on July 24 this update will be available to you or not? will it show as an update on the store? the reason I asked is because some of my programs didn't work well with the beta so I reverted back to Mavericks.

It's not available if you're running the Public Beta. The developer channel gets more frequent updates.

Thanks man for the info.

It is a shame. I do have an iPhone 5C for work, but my personal phone is Android. Would be great to be able to use my Mac with it in this way but.. oh well! :( Maybe I'll switch to an iPhone in the future.

This new system is great, start a email on my iPhone, open mail app on OS X and its there for me to finish, same with text MSG. Receive calls on my MAC though my iPhone or make Calls. looking forward to the finish version.
