Skype app for WP7 is not published anymore!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have got Lumia 800 and Skype stopped working and uninstall and reinstall seemed like a reasonable choice so I did that.

Now when I can't get Skype anymore and the store says this app is not available and is not published anymore!!!

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-au/store/app/skype/c3f8e570-68b3-4d6a-bdbb-c0a3f4360a51

Does anyone know how to get it?

Running WP 7.8 and I don't have developer unlocked so can't side load the XAP :(

Cheers :)

You could try restoring your phone from a backup? Not sure about win phone 7.8 but after factory resetting on win phone 8 if you sign in with the same Ms account on the new setup you can choose to restore from a backup point. When I did all the apps needed updating after they installed so they must have been a few versions old

It's a shame they never put in the effort to support the Lumia 800, it was/is a beautiful little phone.

Talk about planned obsolesce. I am very disappointed.

Didn't think about factory reset and then signing with the same account. I might have to give that a go. Is there an official channel, twitter where this can be raised?

can confirm. I did a restore once that installed Nokia Smart Cam, which has long since been unpublished in favour of Nokia Camera.

That's a negative on the restore. Did a reset and used the same @live account and no apps. Nothing. Nada.

Damn. For me Skype essential...

Can't you find it on a list of "recently installed" stuff? On Android if something is unpublished from the Play Store you can always install the last version as long as you had any version installed before with the same account.

Unfortunately you need WP8.1 to do that, not WP7.

I wonder whether compatibility was lost when they released Skype as a universal app.  Considering the tiny number of WP7 users and the fact that OS support runs out in the next few months they probably didn't think it was a big deal.

OP, it might not be the answer you were looking for but have you considered upgrading to Lumia 5xx or 6xx?  They're very cheap and would give you an experience that is at least on par with your Lumia 800 and you would be able to run Skype and take advantage of the improvements in WP8.x.

Im pretty sure I have the exe for Windows 7 still (I usually keep the install files on my HD to save redownloading them if I need them) - Currently I'm on Windows 8.1 though.

Would you like me to upload it to DropBox for you to grab and see if it is the Win7 version?

Yeah I know. I was ok with not being able to upgrade to WP8 since my Lumia 800 did all I need. Take good photos, browse the web and other phone stuff. But the removal of Skype annoys me.

I am getting 930 soon but I was hoping to give this phone to my Dad and for making Skype calls and for using WhatsApp, it would be perfect for him. Not anymore :(

What happens when you go here to have the app sent to your phone? http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-mobile/

I get an SMS with the link to the same page where it says the app is not available anymore :( If I open the same page on the desktop then I can see it says the app is not published anymore!

Is there a tweet handle I can use to reach out these guys? I get that the WP7 is not supported anymore but the app was working few days ago and I don't get it why it should suddenly stop?

I've never tried Viber myself.

When was the last time you tried it? Maybe they have ironed out some bugs since then?

I'm sure there are other similar services too, just cant think what they are called right now.

I loved and did a face palm when I saw those commercials knowing Windows 7 phones could not go to 8 were around the corner.
