Microsoft KILLS Windows 8.1 Update 2 and Patch Tuesday

17 posts in this topic

Microsoft has at last revealed the date when its second major update to Windows 8.1 will ship to customers: never.

Despite months of speculation that the software giant has been planning to push out another major update roll-up for its latest OS this year, much like it did with the oddly named Windows 8.1 Update in April, Redmond mouthpiece Brandon LeBlanc blogged on Tuesday that we can forget it.

Interesting turn of events, I would have assumed that weekly updates would be far more resource intensive then periodic from a QA perspective. I kinda like the big updates as it makes the whole process feel like its something bigger and better but I suspect with some of the features being dropped and taken into Win 9/Threshold then it's not really worth a big "update 2" banner.

Could an article be any more trolling in attitude? *checks source* Oh, The Register, that explains that.

maybe they had some fear that it would be as a mess as with update 1 where some neowinians reported complete loss of data and no warning before...

Wait - it says they're not releasing the update, but then in the same article it says they are releasing a roll-up update in August to fix various bugs. I'm confused. What the hell is going on with Microsoft?

I think too many rumours and pieces of information have been put together which has really confused things with these updates.

Wow.. sensationalist headline.

Poorly written article.  No big update like update 1, small monthly updates instead.  Basically Patch Tuesday's business as usual, but can also include new features.. faster development cycle.

The content and most notably the community of El Reg is one of most fun and most finest I've had a chance to partake. They've made "biting the hand that feeds IT" an art form, skillfully mocking every corporations' constant half-assing. I won't compare El Reg to Neowin only out of special courtesy.

Nothing much has changed then. :)

That's good! The article title had me worried for a moment there.
