Bill Gates vacations on $330M yacht

Recommended Posts

Bill Gates doesn?t slum it when it comes to his vacations.

The world's richest man has been photographed enjoying quality family time aboard an extravagant $330 million yacht.

The Microsoft founder has been pictured on ?The Serene,? a stunning 450-foot boat he?s renting from Stolichnaya vodka magnate Yuri Scheffler for a cool $5 million per week. :|

Moored off the coast of Sardinia, it reportedly has 12 state rooms, a seawater swimming pool, a cinema, a nightclub, a climbing wall, a gym and two hot tubs.

Bill Gates enjoys a spot of tennis after flying to a court in Porto Cervo in a helicopter from the yacht on which he and his family are vacationing.

There's also a helicopter to fly the clan to and from tennis matches in the nearby ?billionaires' playground? of Porto Cervo ? and a submarine for a spot of underwater exploration.

And to relax, there's a full library, a health spa and a tranquil underwater viewing room.

Gates, who's worth an eye-popping $76 billion, is reportedly with wife Melinda and children Rory, Jennifer and Phoebe on the trip.

For all he's done in his philanthropy, I don't think anyone can begrudge him this. Plus, he's worked for it, he can spend his money as he wishes

That's why people whine. Just because he's doing good things they expect him to do only that.

I agree with you though. It's sad that people jump on each other at first opportunity.

Bill Gates is such an incredible person. Not only he's immensely intelligent, he's one of the few people who can actually say they changed the world, both with his company and his charitable work, he's donated more than 28 billion dollars. Leaves me speechless.

I don't begrudge him anything.

But personally, I'd rather spend those millions on some worthwhile charity or project.

Bill Gates has already donated BILLIONS of dollars to worthwhile charities and projects.

What are you talking about?

Somewhere in excess of $28 billion apparently.  And he's still the richest man in the world at $79 billion, most of which will go to charity when he and his wife pass.

And he still doesn't have a super yacht of his own!

I was talking about me, personally.

I could have a pretty nice world tour for $1,000,000.

I would feel much better to pay off some people's mortgages, college funds, strangers in deep trouble, etc.

Ah... I see.

So would you ever spend anything on yourself?

The way I see it... Bill Gates is THE most charitable man in the world. He's doing exactly what you would do... but on a grand scale.

No one can question the great things he's done... or the millions of lives he's saved.

But are you saying that Bill Gates shouldn't vacation on an expensive yacht?

No, he is saying that if tables are reversed, he wouldn't. He will take $1,000,000 and give the rest away.

If it was me, i'd give away everything except $400,000.

But that ^ will be stupid. If Gates would have started giving away like that, he would not have had so much to give to begin with. You need to earn, make more and then give away, rather than give away what you have. That is what Bill gates has done so far, it has worked, and its intelligent.

Give the rest away? screw that! He's earned it.. he could give away every single penny it's not going to change the world. He does his bit and thats all that can be asked of anyone, i'd quite happily blow the rest without guilt.

I don't want this to sound trollish (it isn't meant in that way) but aren't they a little bit of 1st world issues? I mean wasn't Bill Gates one of the leaders behind getting things like toilets to area's of the world that had nothing close?

I'm sure he has done a lot more then the one example but I think paying off a persons Mortgage or funding them to go to college is a little lower down the priority line then those who don't even have a toilet, clean water, stable food supply or even a roof over their head full stop?

Don't get me wrong, I would love someone to come along and wipe all my debts out but I'm pretty sure I can accept the comfortable life I have with the debts that I chose to be in rather than any of the situations I just mentioned.

And then you'd end up with hundreds of new 'friends' looking for money 'just to help them out a bit'. Sounds like a great time!

Bill Gates can do anything he likes.

And he certainly is charitable.

I just don't think that spending 5 to 10 million dollars for time on a yacht, would be worth it, to me.

I can't swim, play shuffle board, would be lousy at deep sea fishing, and I don't sun bathe.

I could have a great vacation around the world, for say, $1,000,000.

It would be a great feeling to me to spend the rest of the money doing something for others.

That all assumes that I had billions. ;)
