neo1911
Explain your choice. X64 Means no WOW or X86 Emulation layer. Pure 64bit where 32bit apps will not run.
simonlang
i voted yes: in my experience and from talks with windows users, they have at least a quad-core, 8GB ram, 2GB graphics to even use that tile-based piece of os fluently..... :ike:
Guest
NO. Surely you cannot be serious? That would simply destroy gaming on Windows.
neo1911
^^ absolutely valid point. But newer games are coming out with 64 bit support. But once the OS goes X64 only, game support will quickly catch up.
Graimer
It will never happend. The moment you kill 32bit software, you loose enterprise customers. There are lots of enterprise software(old software) that will never be compiled for 64bit and that costs way too much money to replace. +Frank B. Subscriber² Posted August 17, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted August 17, 2014 32-bit software does run on 64-bit Windows. It's 16-bit software which won't work. Robot Emas, al11588, bigmehdi and 3 others 6 Share
+virtorio MVC Posted August 17, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 17, 2014 32-bit software does run on 64-bit Windows. It's 16-bit software which won't work. Not without the WoW64 layer.
spaceelf
Explain your choice. X64 Means no WOW or X86 Emulation layer. Pure 64bit where 32bit apps will not run. A version of Windows that runs hardly any apps? Great. I'd love a 64 bit only release, but not with that restriction. +Frank B. Subscriber² Posted August 17, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted August 17, 2014 Not without the WoW64 layer. Ah, I did not see that part of the OP. Win9 without WOW? That'd be silly. theyarecomingforyou, BajiRav, Ian W and 3 others 6 Share
-T- Member Posted August 17, 2014 Member Share Posted August 17, 2014 It should be x86_64 only but retain the WoW64 layer, otherwise it's go nowhere like the previous pure 64 bit windows greenwizard88 and +E.Worm Jimmy 2 Share
Studio384
No, while most computers and laptops are 64bit nowadays, tablets aren't, you'll leave a lot of Windows tablets behind, and that wouldn't make a very good start. blerk 1 Share
Raa
Ahh, another day, another public poll... I think we still need both flavours for now.
+InsaneNutter MVC Posted August 17, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 17, 2014 Not been able to run 32bit apps would be a big no, as someone else mentioned that basically kills all but the newest of PC games. Plus the majority of apps I have installed are 32bit only, with the exception of Microsoft Office and Photoshop.
Aergan
I think like Server, WOW64 should be an optional (but enabled by default) feature. If you're wanting to harden a client Windows installation, being able to remove WOW64 would be a great.
Aokromes
64 bits only installer: yes. No support for 32 bits apps: no, because most of apps and games around world are 32 bits only.
cork1958
As much as I would've liked to vote yes, I went with a no vote. If nothing else, there are still to many 32 bit machines out there that couldn't be upgraded.
Biohead
Somone's already mentioned it, but it'd completely fail in the enterprise world - which is arguably MS's largest market.
lt8480
Support for 32 bit programs is essential as it's the majority of the applications in use. However installation wise they should be looking at 64 bit only now.

articuno1au
This community makes me sad. The fact that there's more than 5 votes for "yes" just shows the extent to which the community had deteriorated. Way to show a complete lack of understanding with regards to how people use their computers and what they use on them. People couldn't work out how to use the big tiles, they aren't going to be able to work out how to resolve all of their programs not working all of a sudden. Also, moving programs from 32 to 64 bit isn't as simple as flicking a switch (in most cases) it requires redesign of the programs or tweaking. Either way, not simple. Just.. bleh.. Ambroos
People need to understand that WoW64 does not impact performance, and that (besides some advanced calculations) everything 32bit runs just as fast as 64bit. It's not emulation or anything, x86-64 processors are perfectly capable of running 32bit code natively. BajiRav 1 Share
Tech085
64bit only no 32bit disc or downloads only available in 64bit version get rid of 32bit already. ppl who still buy 32bit are either elderly or retarded. neo1911 1 Share
