How reliable is the Xbox One?

74 posts in this topic

Here are both without the top cover.

MS may have chosen the simpler route, but sometimes you don't need to be more complicated just to complicate things. Yes, the design does mean you cannot stack anything on top of the X1, I have never stacked anything on top of any console I've owned, but what you get in return is a case that ventilates very quickly and quietly. While the ps4 design has the advantage of directing heat out of the back, it has the disadvantage of being louder while doing it and carrying that heat across other parts of the console before being pushed out the back, adding to the internal temp of the case.

Having been using both a for a while now, my X1 remains much quieter and even cooler to the touch away from the exhaust vs the ps4. Of course, the ps4 is a much smaller case, so of course it was likely to feel warmer to the touch and it also meant they could not use as large of a fan, hence the noise difference. Basically, both took different paths to reach the same goal. I think both designs get the job down, but as a pc guy, I actually appreciate the route MS took. I always prefer larger, slower spinning, fans in as large a case as makes sense. I appreciate the engineering effort it took to squeeze everything into the ps4, but I would happily sacrifice some beauty or size in order to have a quieter system.

Thank You!
I'm aware about it.
Cousin has gone for a vacation. He picked it from Ebgames which includes GST.

We are aware about TRS and the procedure as we have done it quite a few times for jewelry and electronics.

Cheers!

As for warranty you'd be dealing direct with Microsoft, so if worse came to worse you could ship it to them from India then use an australian drop-shipping company to ship to which would then return ship from Australia to you in India. I do this often with shipments that are only shipped within the US, so it'd be an avenue to check. It sucks paying double shipping, but with your discount you got on the hardware it may be worth it.

I'd also get your cousin to open it up and try it out to ensure theres no obvious defects if he can, that way he can deal direct with EBgames there before he returns.

Wrong place to ask. This place is very biased towards Microsoft. I suggest you look outside of this place if you want a more neutral perspective.

Very helpful.

By the way, I would argue that is not the case, especially in the gamer forums. Even the opposite actually.

Yeah there are a lot of MS fans,  but there are more people who are neutral.  So it is all good.

I got my xbox one today. Instantly the fan was loud and whirling. I took it back to the store (I don't care support on a brand new item). New one is completely silent.

Fans are ok, its the fanboy level that is bad. There are fans of Sony and MS around here, with most of those being neutral when it comes to reacting to stories regarding each. Those that fall into the 'fanboy' category are a very small percentage on either side, which is good.

Another idea, Have you checked to see if they stock the xbox at duty free when leaving? May save you even more. I remember last time I came through international they had handhelds and games but can't remember if they had consoles. I usually levitate towards the grog every international flight

Firstly everyone should know that heat rises, not sure why you guys keep bringing it up like as if the fact you are aware of this is some sort of accomplishment

Yes, yes that's EXACTLY what we were doing...

To bad ya didnt get the PS4 cause that Xbox one is huge compared to PS4 and allot of xbox one games are not native 1080p they are 720 or 900p upscale to 1080p..

Plan to get it early 2015 when some decent exclusives come out

Ive had a couple of lock ups and sometimes ive had it where the console won't wake up so i need to hold the power button on the front of the console. Generally however i think these are just software bugs, with the monthly releases the bugs seem to be disappearing fast.

Check out the ratings on sites like Amazon, and read up on the reviews both good and bad.  You should get a bigger, better picture than the pond you're in now.

The Xbox One is rock solid as far as I can tell.

The build quality on the controller though could be improved.

Didn't MS spend like 100 million dollars designing it? Kind of odd that is the thing that it would need improvement.

Console technician? Isn't that just a term people give themselves who have just figured out how to mod a console?

I lol'd.

Its not a design issue, but a manufacturing issue. The bigger controller issue that I have seen mentioned comes down to poor QC from manufacturing such as seams not being tightly together.

Also heat does rise but a fan also sucks out that heat and pushes it out of the system, do you not know basic physics of air flow? Sony have never had an over-heating issue like Microsoft's RRoD fiasco with the X360. I don't know the specifics of how either of the current gen systems circulate heat but neither of them seem to have over-heating issues.

Not sure how the blu ray drives are better in the Xbox One when quite a few Xbox One's had BR drive issues and I haven't heard about any on the PS4. Sony are also one of the major founders of blu-ray technology so I would expect them to be pretty good at making BR drives by now.

It was Microsoft's fault for using lead-free solder without stress testing the system with it.. if that was the cause. I've seen articles which point in other directions but either way no one but Microsoft are at fault when it comes to the design and materials used in their system regardless of any RoHS directives.

My PS4 has had issues, where my X1 has had none. The PS4 is always throwing the fan up loud during gaming sessions because it gets too hot. It's a known issue, and is all over the official Playstation forums. And if you look there, you will see threads dedicated to BR issues on the PS4.

Like you did before, you made stuff up, and you are doing it again.

Nobody is making anything up. Both consoles have reported hardware issues. The opinions and experiences we share are subjective.

Suffice to say, neither console has outstanding, widespread hardware issues, ala RRoD/YLoD.

If you're worried about the longevity of your console, buy an extended warranty and rest easy. Nothing else to it.

Spend 100 mil on design, don't ensure quality manufacturing. You have to wonder how that happens.  :/

Bad batches happen in manufacturing. Just ask Apple, Google, Sony, MS, etc, etc. All have seen a bad batch of a new device that has issues and all of those companies spend a lot of money designing the products.

Its not easy to control the manufacturing side of things when you don't actually manufacture it yourself. Even if you did, its still nearly impossible to be perfect.

I know this is off topic.

Is it just me, or does the Xbox One original vision make more sense after seeing and reading up on Windows 10?

It could just be me  :D

I wonder how much of the Windows 10 image is the Xbox going to take on.

No, its not just you.

The Xbox will get Win 10. As they said at the announcement, each device will run Win 10, but with an appropriate UI on each. So the actual dashboard layout may not change much, but its capabilities will grow.

OK. I thought by the other poster that there was a problem with all X1 controllers, that is they are all being manufactured poorly, or there was some overlooked design flaw.. Bad batches happen to all companies, I didn't mean to suggest MS should be singled out for that. :)

Unless evidence comes to the contrary, it seem to just be a bad batch. I've got three myself without an issue, but I knew two people with controllers at launch that had defects to the plastic casing. They weren't sealed properly.
