An_Englishman
Hello everyone, I?m just wondering out of the people who have had experience with Spinrite, who would personally recommend it? I'm considering purchasing it and giving it a go, but I'm just a bit hesitant as fifty quid is fifty quid.
0 +Eternal Tempest MVC Posted August 21, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 21, 2014 If it works with your hard drive controller, it's amazing. Does not work with my motherboard. Program not been updated in a long time. An_Englishman 1 Share
0 goretsky Supervisor Posted August 22, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted August 22, 2014 Hello, If you have a hard disk drive that is failing, you should copy the data off of it and not try to fix the hard disk drive through software means. If I need to recover data from a hard disk drive, I would first use a program like Runtime Software's GetDataBack suite of tools. Basically, I treat SpinRite as a tool of last resort. 0 Raa
I would avoid dropping the money on it. Try and recover the data through 3rd party tools (there's plenty of free software), then replace the drive.
0 Shiranui
I have used it many times. Its not bad, but depending on the situation, it can put unnecessary stress on a drive ? which is not something you really want to do if the drive is dying. As Goretsky says, try to copy as much data of the disk as you can before messing with low-level tools. Personally, I recommend saving your money and trying the excellent Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier goretsky 1 Share
0 An_Englishman
Thanks for the info guys. Usually when getting data of a bad drive, depending on how bad the situation is I would use something like Unstoppable Copier or I would usually revert to TestDisk depending on the severity of the problem. I was just wondering if this would help speed up a good drive which is passing the manufacturer tests (yes, I know they don't always detect problems) but causing a very slow boot. Everything on the Windows side and other hardware seem fine.
