Yesterday, some Xbox One beta users in the United States reported seeing a new feature on their consoles, called 'Free Play Day with Gold'. The feature allowed users to download and play certain games for 24 hours without purchase, and the first game to be unlocked was Max: The Curse of Brotherhood.
The feature was not officially announced by Microsoft, and with good reason. As Kotaku reports, the company has now said that the promotion was posted accidentally.
"A promotional tile for 'Max: Curse of the Brotherhood' [sic] was posted briefly on the US dash in error yesterday," Microsoft said in a statement. "We apologize for any inconvenience. We're constantly exploring different ways to offer more benefits to our Xbox Live Gold members and will keep them updated when special offers become available."
Of course, claiming that it was posted in error doesn't rule out the possibility of the promotion being officially announced later. For now, though, Xbox Live Gold users will just have to make do with what they've got.
