DDOSers claim PSN kill as games services go offline

SN is down, apparently after being DDOSed.

PSN is offline at the time of writing, apparently thanks to a DDOS attack.

A group called @LizardSquad is claiming responsibility for the action.

Shacknews is reporting that Battle.net, League of Legends and Grinding Gears? Path of Exile have also been attacked, although Hearthstone appears to be fully playable at the moment.

Been down for hours in Australia, nearly half the the day now great Sunday to finish the weekend (Y) Thought it was my net when I was attempting to sign in but is widespread world wide it seems.

Not sure why Sony still hasn't figured out how to redirect these attacks in a timely fashion but anyway... Off to bed hopefully it's fixed by morning.

I'm able to log in.

Update: John Smedley from Sony Online Entertainment has confirmed that the Japanese giant's servers are being targeted by a "large scale DDoS attack". However, the good news is that the firm already appears to have dealt with the problem, as the PSN is coming back online for many as we write. Let us know if you're still having problems.

Down for me in Ireland. Why is it that other sites that were reportedly hit by these social retards were back up and running within an hour, yet Sony servers have been down for approx. 4 hours?

What are Sony actually doing? Maybe, they are taking the down time to implement the upgrades/fixes/maintenance they had planned for tomorrow... or, and I suspect this is more realistic, Sony haven't got a clue what they are doing.

These Lizard crew need to grow up and maybe try and kiss a girl or something

Ugh, those f'ers were screwing around with GW2 the other day too.  Bloody annoying and not terribly impressive.. somebody's hurting for attention.

I couldn't sign in last night to PSN, first thought was maybe it was something with my router/internet acting up.  Tried to use Netflix and I had to keep hitting Cancel to the PSN Sign in a bunch of times before it let me log into Netflix without logging into PSN.

Just tried now and it worked.  Hopefully problem solved.

This is the douche that "hacked" blizzard, PSN and now Xbox

FTFY.  Script kiddies don't know how to hack.

Let's all check the service every minute to make sure the DDoS is over.

PSN has been working fine for me for hours now, only had a brief moment last night where it didn't want to sign in.

I see DDOS attacks as the equivalent of gathering enough people IRL to completely fill a McDonald's with so many people that no one can get to the register and order their food.

Just because you can do it does not really make it special or honorable or even worth mentioning. It is just a waste of everybody's time. So yeah keep it up I guess.
