macoman
Hello guys, I was wondering if Gparted partition Editor will allow me to take more space from Windows to my elementary OS partition without any issue and increase the size of the linux space. Anyone have experience doing this? I don't want to screw up my setup.
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted August 25, 2014 Moderator Share Posted August 25, 2014 I "think" you can do that. I don't know if it will overwrite any data from your Windows partition. Just do what I do. Have 2 different SSD's.
simonlang
usually ever better parition manager (which includes gparted as well the kde partition manager) will allow you to reallocate free space and even moving partitions. however, it might take long but i see no problem at all. Max Norris
Resizing the Windows partition via the Computer Management console is dead easy, just find the appropriate partition under Disk Management, right click and "Shrink Volume." Haven't resized a Linux partition in years but reasonably sure GParted did the trick with very little hassle as well.. Parition->Resize/move if I remember right. In other words, shrink one, expand the other, done.
Nick H. Supervisor Posted August 25, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted August 25, 2014 I've just resized a USB key using GParted on Linux without an issue, doing exactly what Max mentioned (shrink one partition, then extend the other partition.) But as usual, backup your data before you go resizing it just to be safe.

duoi Veteran Posted August 27, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 27, 2014 It is unfortunate that you still have nonfree software in your computer. You need to defenestrate it (which means, either throw Windows out of the computer or throw the computer out of the window). simonlang 1 Share
