Asus Q501LA laptop no longer turning on.

Recommended Posts

I purchased the laptop (Asus Q501LA-BBI5T03) just over a year ago, so missed the warranty by about two weeks, unfortunately. I first noticed the laptop taking a couple of extra minutes to turn on around the beginning of the month. I ran all of the laptop updates, BIOS and drivers, etc. Still had the problem of increased wait time from hitting the power button to the computer going through POST and continuing booting up. Once it would start the process the boot up would be normal speed. A one point last week it took 5 minutes for it to finally boot up, and now it doesn't start all together.

I've tried removing the battery and using direct power only. Removed and re-seated the RAM. Removed the hard drive and tested it on a dock--its working fine. Still no go. When I hit the power button the hard drive activity light will blink about twice a second for a while and then stop. All the while the screen doesn't turn on at all.

I'm not sure what else I should try, anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, I guess I've been keeping a low profile.  :)

Well, I replaced the CMOS battery.. it was staring me in the face, not sure why I didn't think to replace it. But unfortunately that didn't work.  :/

Thanks Hum!

I had a similar problem with an ASUS K45 laptop and they needed to replace the motherboard twice.

The problem was that the laptop appeared to be dead for several minutes after pressing the power button and all of a sudden it would boot up normally.

Is the screen turning on when immediately after pressing the power button? Mine wasn't. I was fortunate to be under warranty and it has been almost 8 months without warranty and it works great. *knocks on wood*

Look for a mobo replacement or take it to a service center.

Yes, that's exactly what mine was doing. Unfortunate that I missed the warranty coverage by only a few weeks.

I feel sorry for that. You can either replace the motherboard yourself or get it to a service center.

Let's hope it isn't too expensive.
