New Toshiba service new service model? is it worth it? opinions welcome

I own a Toshiba and try to keep it clean as possible. I'm kind of hesitant about using some services or software since something like this could possibly be a simple rip off.

 

if this comes off as a cash cow and there are better alternatives, please.. by all means let me know.

Honestly based on the software feature descriptions, you can already do a lot (if not all) of that - and in more modern versions of Windows, automatically - without having to pay for anything. Personally I tend to stay away from those sorts of programs as they tend to do more harm than good, and perhaps more importantly, there is no easy way to tell what they are doing to one's system.
 

"One Click Performance Boost - Easy-to-follow wizards fix and remove system-hogging clutter and optimize the hard drive."

The built-in Disk Cleanup wizard and Disk Defragmenter already do this (the latter of which is unnecessary if you are using a SSD).
 

"Program Optimizer - Accelerates program responsiveness by optimizing installed programs and Windows files."

While that certainly sounds nice, it is not very descriptive about what it is would actually be doing to achieve those goals.
 

"Startup Commander - Disables start-up programs to improve Windows boot times."

One can already do this in Windows via the System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe) in Windows XP through Windows 7, or via the Task Manager in Windows 8.x.
 

"Internet Cleanup - Helps prevent identity theft by wiping away Internet tracks, protecting privacy."

This is a feature of almost every modern web browser (Internet Options in Internet Explorer; Clear Recent History in Mozilla Firefox, et cetera).
 

"Active Intelligence Technology - Silently and automatically monitors and fixes all your PC tune-up problems in the background."

Again, that sure sounds nice, but what is it doing to achieve those goals? Windows 8.x already includes an Automatic Maintenance feature.

You are quite welcome. I just don't see a reason why one would (or should) have to buy the product since Windows already allows you to do what it advertises.

On a somewhat related note, I don't know why I called the Disk Cleanup tool a "wizard". :p

Seems like toshiba is simply trying to generate income from unsuspecting people who simply don't know.
