niks2456
Comments are not displayed in Opera mini Android . Before site upgrade there was no such problem . Is it a bug or you have dropped support ?
Brandon H Supervisor Posted August 27, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted August 27, 2014 I don't think Opera Mini is being developed anymore. you might want to switch over to Opera Mobile. everything should work fine on that version
taim
Opera Mini is still being developed, http://blogs.opera.com/mobile/2014/08/downloading-files-take-better-control-downloads-opera-mini-android/

I stand corrected my guess then is it still uses the old Presto engine then and hasn't switched over to Blink as Opera 12 Classic has the same issue with the comments section
Ambroos
I guess it's because the comments are now loaded with Javascript after the page is loaded. Before they used to be directly available in the HTML.
taim
It uses Presto for server-side rendering to do compression. I don't think they'll switch to Blink on Opera Mini.
eddman
The same issue with opera mini on symbian. Comments don't load. It would be nice if you could work around this. Opera mini is widely used on feature phones and also smartphones with limited data bandwidth.
MikeChipshop Member Posted August 31, 2014 Member Share Posted August 31, 2014 Would be interesting to know what % of Neowin visitors use Presto browsers. I'm betting 'not many' but you never know.

Technically, opera mini is an OBML browser, not presto. Servers do use the presto engine, but the website doesn't even see it. https://dev.opera.com/articles/opera-binary-markup-language/ Counting it as such would produce inaccurate results, since it'd get mixed up with the old presto based opera mobile. Timan Veteran Posted August 31, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 31, 2014 Heh, just gave this a run on Opera Mini (android). I'm sorry but theres very little I can do here with regards to the comments not loading. Only other tweak I'd be able to do, which isn't even a good tweak... is to remove the navigation menu which does not render correctly. We just can't support a browser that is so limited. Modern browsers only when it comes to mobile. Also yes, the stats for opera mini, are very very small.1. Chrome2. Internet Explorer3. Firefox4. Safari5. Safari (in-app)6. Opera7. Android Browser8. taim
You can try reporting this issue to Opera. http://forums.opera.com/categories/en-opera-mini Opera Mini forums https://bugs.opera.com/wizardmini/ Opera Mini bug report wizard
eddman
... Did you change anything on neowin, Timan, because comments are now showing up in opera mini? They work. :D EDIT: Did you remove the navigation menu? I know it didn't render correctly, but it was working. Now I can't see if there are notifications. Could you please bring it back?
