Printer only prints sometimes

Question

I have a very strange problem with my printer. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

Word - Doesn't print at all

PDF - Some documents get printed, others don't

...

My printer spooler is empty so that's not the problem.

Any one have any ideas?

OS: Windows 8.1

Printer: HP LaserJet Pro 400

I'm not a big fan of HP extra software, or any extra software from printers really - just give me the driver ;)  But good to hear -- let me know if you run into issues and we can setup that TV.

How is your printer connected? Wireless/Wired to your network, usb to your machine?

What does word say when you try and print?

Wired to the network.

Word says nothing. It pretends that it prints but just doesn't do anything.

This happend suddenly. The exact same setup worked the last 6 months.

EDIT:

Today I tried printing from a program called "ReportDaemon" and the printer didn't do anything. I then saved it as a PDF and used Adobe Reader to print and it magically worked. Word, Excel, .. still don't want to print.

So how are you printing in word, are you just hitting the print button.  Or picking your printer..  So what does devices show for your printer, and when you click on your printer, etc..

So how does your printer get an ip, did you set it static - is it dhcp, what is your printers IP address?  Can you print out a test page showing the configuration

Can we setup a time where I can Team Viewer in and take a look?  Something like this is very difficult to troubleshoot without some actual details, etc.

You sure are welcome to check everything over TeamViewer.

As for your questions:

1) I don't see the "Printer Ready" icon on Windows 8.1?

2) Same settings as you have with the correct IP address

3) I can click the Properties button in Word and it displays the correct printer

Ok, this afternoon I had some time and decided to uninstall everything HP related on my computer. I finally managed to do so and re-install the printer. For now, everything works. Lets hope it stays this way!
