derkim
A little-known software startup called Cyanogen is gaining attention from a long list of big-name companies that want to sell smartphones and applications based on Google?s Android operating system?but don?t want to be under the thumb of Google. Haggis Veteran Posted August 29, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2014 I would not have said Cyanogen was a little known start-up Certainly not in the developer world xrobwx71 and Dick Montage 2 Share

LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted August 29, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2014 thekim, Why is your comment no? have you tried the product? When it comes to android phones i generally tend to wait after new phones come out to see if the Cyanogen team are going to support the device. The addons they put into their distro are amazing and in my experience on several devices they manage to get better performance out of the machine that both the OEM ROM and Stock Android can do. Cyanogen has also been credited with adding features into their distro that later Google decided were a great addition and did with the stable stock build (like the profile support and second notification dropdown) They also have a fantastic support community that likes to help you rather than hinder your creativity when customizing your experience with your phone. xrobwx71 and Chris123NT 2 Share

The argument is the same like from the companys... "but don?t want to be under the thumb of Google."... and I don't want to be under the thumb of Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung or Yahoo. btw... Im CM user.
LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted August 29, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2014 I am not certain where the author gets their information about "not wanting to be under the thumb of Google" when Cyanogen has worked closely with Google in the past and even a few of their staff used to work at Google. I can understand now that they are moving into the Hardware market with the Oppo One Plus One that they might have to deal with more regulation from Google but that is going to happen being that there are specific guidelines from Google as far as hardware. Whereas the modifications they have made to the software have always been withing the guidelines to make sure they do not harm the Android ecosystem with the changes they make. As a precaution to those guidelines Cyanogen does not even ship with any of the Google Apps installed and require the end user to source them on their own. PsYcHoKiLLa
LOL @ Little known, maybe to news companies who are too busy seeing what Kim Kardashian isn't wearing this week. CyanogenMod is nowhere near the best rom though, SlimRom, Carbon, MIUI, these are all way better but a lot of custom roms do use CyanogenMod as a base.
