Boot Loader problem

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem with my boot loader... Right now, it lists the two OSes I have installed in the boot.ini file, but when I start my computer, it is listing three OSes... and the one it is listing is named "Microsoft Windows" ... but I don't have a third OS installed... This is what my boot.ini says:

[boot Loader]

Timeout=30

[Operating Systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /bootlog

C:="Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition"

If it is only listing two OSes here, why is it showing three when I boot my computer? Any ideas on how I can remove the third listed OS?

Since I don't know anything about Windows ME (because of what an enormous piece of **** it is), maybe you're looking at the wrong bootstrap. Is that the boot.ini for windows xp? Or is it the boot information for ME? Im betting you're looking at the wrong file there buddy

The boot.ini says the same thing on both OSes... This problem occured after I made some changes in Windows XP... I had uninstalled windows 2000, but it was still showing up in my boot loader, so I deleted it from the boot.ini file in windows XP... and ever since there has been a third OS listed when I boot my computer...

In XP right click my computer, select properties and go to the Advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery click Settings. Once in there hit the edit button to make the necessary changes.

dclanz... that was the first thing I did... That's how I deleted "windows 2000 professional" from the boot loader... but as I said, it is only listing two OSes... not three... I can't delete what I can't see... and the only time I see it is when I am booting my computer... not in the boot.ini file...

I should have been more complete. Fdisk /mbr, then recover using the windows xp cd key and fixboot. Then the boot settings can be repaired from inside of windows xp to boot from the alternate (winME) operating system, or xp.
