SlayerS_BoxeR Posted August 29, 2014 Share Posted August 29, 2014 alright i got a replacement phone (iphone 5) yesterday, and the deal was not to restore my device so i could use ios 5/6 (is it 5 or 6 when it gets initially launched?) but then they restored my info and obviously it gets upgraded to 7 - i've realized this after walking out of the store and went home. anyways i can fight this back w them tmrw so i can get a replacement again? IIRC they won't offer support until you're on the latest OS your phone supports. You either stick with whatever issue you had, or upgrade and get your phone sorted. Not all... My brother has iPad Mini running iOS 6. not sure what version number but I know he's running iOS 6. His wife has iPad Mini running iOS 7. I told him to upgrade but he didn't want to. He rather to keep iOS 6 as long as he can. If you run iOS 6 on your device and have many apps, then you might want to upgrade to iOS 7 or so because the 'updated' apps will require you to upgrade iOS to meet the app requirement. Depends where you got the device from. They don't update before hand it to you... you update it yourself.. or leave it alone. If you get it from the retail store, they don't update by itself unless you turn it on and update it yourself. I told my brother that iOS 7 has improved the battery life... he was like "what?" and he can't decide to update or not. That's why he keeps iOS6 longer.. Biohead Posted August 31, 2014 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Because of the quick turnover of Apple replacements, its almost guaranteed that ALL replacements now come with iOS7. Similarly if you buy any device new from Apple it'll have iOS7 loaded. As you say, its not preloaded in store, but rather comes out the factory now with iOS7. Only very slow moving stock from quiet 3rd party shops will likely have old stock still with iOS6. So replacements are almost guaranteed to be iOS7 in summary. If you can't do it youself, you can ask someone help you. No. The only devices that can be downgraded to previous versions of iOS right now are iPhone 4, iPad 2, and previous. For those device to be downgraded, the user would have to have had to have captured the SHSH blob file using a utility like TinyUmbrella or the Cydia SHSH server thing. With that and the firmwarm IPSW file, there is a utility out there that can "stitch" the IPSW and the SHSH blob together so that the device does not need to authenticate itself with Apple's server in order to be activated. If this was not done while the previous iOS version was installed, there is no way to go back and get it.
