2s2k
So, my laptop got stolen from my car a couple of nights ago. I'm getting a reasonable amount from my insurance to replace it and I'm looking for some options. First of all, I had a 1 year old HP Envy 15-j030 ( specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03846238&lc=en&product=5397904&tmp_track_link=ot_search ) and it was a pretty good laptop except for the touchpad and annoying pre-installed HP software. Now for a small amount of money I have to pay extra I could get this Toshiba Satellite P50-B-10P ( http://www.toshiba.be/nl/laptops/satellite/satellite-p50-b/satellite-p50-b-10p/ ). * I was wondering if the Toshiba has the same problem with the touchpad and the pre-installed software? I have never owned a Toshiba laptop before. Anyone here with some experience? * It doens't have a IPS display, should I notice any difference? edit: according to the official Toshiba website, it has a IPS screen, the site I buy it from says it doesn't And also, you can always suggest some laptops with similar specs and same screen size (15.6") Thank you
Brian M. Veteran Posted August 30, 2014 Veteran Share Posted August 30, 2014 i can't comment on the trackpad, but most of them will have the same problem with pre-installed software. First thing I always did was do a clean install of Windows and manually install whatever drivers it needs.
georgevella
Would you consider a Dell? I'm personally itching to buy this one: http://www.dell.com/uk/p/xps-15-9530/pd?oc=cnx9514&model_id=xps-15-9530. It has specs similar to what you want, albeit a lil bit more pricey. What's stopping me from upgrading is that I have the Sandybridge version of the same series, released in 2011, and it's been running flawlessly and satisfies my every need (albeit I have to admit, I did replace the internal drive to an SSD and added a new battery because the older was dying). They're great unless the motherboard fails (like mine did not 4 weeks ago!). I'd reccomend them still though (providing you do a clean build of the OS and replace the thermal grease after the one year mark). We have recently bought another (entry level i3 4th gen) Dell laptop and it's been a good experience so far.

"Starting at ? 1 499" That's too expensive, the Toshiba costs me about 1 100 EUR *edit* http://www.dell.com/be/p/xps-15-9530/pd?oc=cnx9512&model_id=xps-15-9530 1749 EUR

Is the buils quality similar to the XPS?
