Themes incoming for PS4 2.0 and PSVita 3.30

Not keen on those designs but good news (Y)

Yeah, no kidding. I always wonder why a lot of official themes suck. Hire decent designers to make something awesome. Hell, you could probably run a competition and have people submit entries which would blow you away.

hell yeah, there are tons of people who love creating themes for free...

the fact that they got their name to officially be mentioned will be enough for a lot of talented guys, who just want to add it to the resume for future work

i barely seen ANY official themes for anything that are anywhere near as good as the underdogs can make for free.

wasting a perfect opportunity it seems

You can build your own themes on the PS3 so I'm guessing its going to be the same on the PS4.

This is good news, seems like the 2.0 update is going to be huge. It almost covers everything I want so far.. hopefully they add DLNA support into it too.

Pretty sure they are just the Japanese designed themes. Us westerners should have more relevant and cooler looking themes I hope.

Yeah as GotBored already pointed out, you could build your own themes in the PS3, I actually started one just never finished it, so I would imagine once themes are enabled on the PS4, you will be able to do the same.

With that said I just prefer a little bit of simple customization like changing the background color and icons, as opposed to full fledged themes.

I checked out a whole lot of themes on the PS3, and I only really only used 2 regularly, and they were both South Park related.

So I am personally cool with just being able to pick some colors and be done with it.

I read the title here and was SOOOOOO hoping they ditched the bubble UI on the Vita in favor of the square tiles the PS4 has... or ANYTHING else for that matter.

Maybe it's just me and I love my Vita overall but I can't stand the stupid bubble UI.

I'm not motivated or bothered to make my own themes any more. I have neither the time nor interest.

Agreed. The UI is stupid.

With more RAM the PS4 dynamic themes certainly have the chance to be much better than the PS3 ones (more dynamic/eventful).

Can we use a 1080p photo as our wallpaper? That would be nice. Stick a USB with a photo on into our systems and use that as a wallpaper.

I'm sure they'll allow JPG/PNG wallpapers, just not user created dynamic themes.

Maybe not on 2.0 but I'm sure it'll eventually get there.

Just download ones other people have already made, there are a few sites out there for the PS3 already where people submit their themes for others to download and use.

Some hope for the PS4 over the next few days - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=132961871&postcount=455

I don't know who either of those posters are but taken on it's own I don't find that post very credible.

The quoted text at top (Originally Posted by kmg90) reads like a bunch of lame excuses with respect to the DLNA and suspend/resume functionality.  Whaaa, it's hard.  Well if you release a next gen console you can bet on the fact that buyers are going to expect it to do at least as much as the prior gen console.  The PS3 has DLNA and if it's hard they should have worked on it more before launch, it's not like it's a brand new standard, they should be able to support at least as much as the PS3 does.  Also for suspend/resume they should have known if they announced it at launch people were going to keep asking about it.  They'd be hearing a lot less if they actually waited till they were near release to announce support for it.  It doesn't help that the Xbox One does it now though but hey, that's competition.

The last paragraph from the poster (jeff_rigby) talks about H.265 support which I seriously doubt is coming to the PS4 as it lacks the required hardware to do it.  I guess MAYBE they could write a software encoder/decoder but I really don't see that happening.  H.265 will likely come whenever 4k gaming does, probably next console generation.

I hope Update 2.0 does come out soon but I wouldn't bet on it based on this particular post.  This is one occasion where I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I'm anxious to see this 2.0 update actually come out. I accept the fact that Sony just moves as it moves, but I hope the competition forces them to pick up the pace a little.

jeff_rigby is a bit of a forum legend. For months, maybe it was even years he had thousands of elaborate posts written about how the PS3 web browser had an impending update with certain features linked with graphs and technical jargon... funnily enough one day the update happened, and he was vindicated. Short version of it. I have no idea who the guy is, but the detail he goes into posting technical stuff is like guy in the desert in a tinfoil hat style. It's bonkers. He must be tied to linux somehow.

Firmware 2.0 isn't coming today or tomorrow.
It will be out around the 15th November. Everyone knows this.

What hardware do you think is required for H.265? Please elaborate
