Haswell-E crazed

Nope, only DDR4. Expect to pay out the rear for DDR4 a.k.a. the "early adopter" fee.

eh, not really on this round. I remember paying 400+ for ddr2 and ddr3 at launch, but this time around a couple hundred bucks and you have 16GB of DDR4. Not much of a premium this time.

Does it support DDR3 memory?

The processor has the memory controller built in so they would have to redesign it to allow for DDR3.

Since DDR4 will more than likely supplant DDR3 and their current standard Haswell platform supports DDR3, there's little incentive for Intel to downgrade the Haswell-E...plus I imagine the X79 and Ivy Bridge-E processors will be sold for at least another year.

Pretty pointless for a gaming build, and if it's a workstation you're building there are much beefier Xeons out there, albeit not with DDR4.

Unless they have disposable income and just want to be waaaay ahead of the curve  :D

All "Fun" funds went towards an Xbox One and a PS4.

And now I want a Surface Pro 3 and a new Gaming Rig... :/

Time to start saving the pennies I guess...
