I need a list of APIs

Recommended Posts

hello!

I need a list of common web apis that are used on sites such as twitter, facebook and such...I wish to get them into an ACL so I can block them.

How do you mean API's so you can block them by ACL's?

Are you talking Cisco ACL's if then you block IP's....

Its not exactly the same but along the lines, I found this.....

If you want to block them crawling your site, Block these IP's  :)

no, I mean APIs inbedded into websites which make calls out to other sites, I have already blocked most adverts from my network connection I am now moving onto other traffic such as APIs like facebook etc... I do not want to block facebook, just the APIs that other sites use. imagine being on dial up with a 1000ms ping and all these calls needing to be resolved xD

There is 1000's of them it would take you ages to do this and even then it would be flaky at best as alot of them would use CDN's. The easiest way to accomplish this is use Ghostery add on. This does exactly what you are looking for.

why don't you get a real webfilter (physical or virtual) and do it that way instead of trying to manually manage it through a tedious amount of ACL's?

here is an example (login with no password)

http://webfilter.barracuda.com/cgi-mod/index.cgi

go to the block/accept tab, click on the applications hyper link, and scroll through all of the applications it blocks.  Go to the web app control (same tab) and look through all of the web apps you can also block.

This all comes down to trying to squeeze 40 users down the pipe not even large enough 1 user doesn't it?

yea pretty much :) I am looking into wan op I have a list i am looking at... so far I have 40 users no problem browsing, its just still a little painful but I have been given the OK that so far its acceptable but that isnt good enough for me, I want better results.
