People are lining up for an iPhone 6 that doesn't exist yet

Some people collect coins, others collect stamps, and then there?s a set of individuals who line up super early for the latest iPhone every year. That?s normally a few days before Apple?s latest smartphone is due to go on sale, but this year it?s happening already. Apple?s iPhone 6 unveiling isn?t expected until next Tuesday, but there?s already people lining up outside the flagship New York City store....

Lemmings.

I was going to say, "lemons" myself. I can sort of understand lining up for a device that is going to go on sale, but this is just silly of them. Don't they have jobs to go to?

Actually I think the guys in the blue t-shirts, if they're like those folks I've seen on other videos, are basically professional line-sitters. They get paid to do it for people who want the products first, and can afford to pay for a guy to sit in a queue for them for a week, and don't want to be queueing for a week themselves.

Insane I know but. Talk about the easiest money you'll ever make.

Where do I sign up? :p

So, people are paying for others to stand in line for them and then still have to pay for the phone itself.  All that money just to be one of the first.  Ridiculous and just goes to show people do not know how to handle or spend their money.  Yes, it is their money to spend but still is silly.

I can't imagine that it's a terribly pleasant experience though, standing in line for a week, unless there are also subs for bathroom breaks and people who bring them meals... :/

But exactly as you say, insane. :P

Indeed - but as the saying goes, "A fool and his money are soon parted" :)

They sure will be disappointed if they find that the iPhone 6 doesn't ship for another month though ;)

Well the article does say you can make around 7 grand being one of the first to wait in line...

If you just order one online it arrives at your door the day of its release.

I don't understand some people.

I just don't get it. Apple execs must chuckle at how they've managed to accomplish something other phone vendors would give their left nut for.

I know! On the flip side I wonder if Samsung etc see these pictures and think "How can we achieve this?"

I'd sell it and put the money toward a new Surface!

+1

So these people are going to stay out there until next Friday? That's just nuts. Why not just be online when they go on sale and order it that way? Camping out on a sidewalk for 10 days sounds incredibly stupid for a phone.

Anyone else agree on this?

Yes, that is a definite possibility. Another could be that these people, obviously not gainfully employed, or wasting their vacations, are in line early with the hope of selling their spot to an iDiot that will pay them for a premium location in line. Why not? If I was a bum-type living near an Apple store I'd surely sit in a lawn chair for a few days to sell you my spot for, say, $500 and take the money and buy food or booze or drugs or whatever bum-types need.
