Microsoft hints at future high end Lumia phones with 1020 like cameras

A Microsoft executive has hinted that the company still has plans to release Windows Phone products that will have higher end camera hardware like the Lumia 1020 with its 41 megapixel PureView lens.

Jo Harlow, the current Corporate Vice President of the Phones Business Unit at Microsoft, was asked by TechRadar if a future phone from the company could have a camera with the power of the Lumia 1020. The response from Harlow? "Absolutely ? we're not end of the mission in camera technology, or in computational photography. We continue to invest in that area to bring the next greatest thing in high end imaging."

Microsoft bought Nokia's smartphone division, who created the Lumia 1020 and the PureView camera hardware inside it, back in April, but's its been over a year since the launch of the Lumia 1020. Harlow wouldn't comment on just when Microsoft will offer a smartphone with the kind of megapixels that the 1020 had but it does sound like that is something we can expect sometime in the future.

I fully expect a new 1030 to come up soon, maybe even be the first WP8.1 device to retail with GDR2/Update 2 later this year.

I also think they need to do a 5.5" device, they only have a 5" and then jump right to 6", there's a gap in there that they can fill, maybe a new 1030 will be 5.5"?   Or maybe we could see a 1130 or 1230?

A "1030" the size of the current 1020 would be great for me. I really don't want a camera phone that would be bigger than an actual camera!

I'm thinking of moving to a 5" for my next phone, maybe a bit bigger, don't know yet.   I fully expect to see some highend phones for the holidays, maybe around November.   And like I posted, they do have free numbers to use still, there's no 11xx or 12xx phones yet, might as well use those model numbers.
