Seeing adverts on new mobile site

Recommended Posts

I am too! Thought my sub expired. Turns out the only ad. I see is on mobile, under the article, before comments. I thought Neowin got rid of ads on mobile.

Sorry guys, this is a bug :/ That ad and one or two others is hardcoded in rather than in our ad manager. Redmak is going to be starting on the ad manager update today (afaik) and hopefully it will be one of the things he gets to first (disable all ads for subs).

As per below, there is still an ad being shown on mobile in the article page between the story and comments sections.

Is everyone still on holiday? :)

I'm confused... there are supposed to be adverts on the mobile site, so I'm not sure what the problem is here?

Subscriber Tier 2 aren't supposed to see them. I will check the code again but I think that is handled outside of the ad manager.

I think that there has been a misunderstanding here. I was under an impression that the mobile site doesn't have ads (not sure where I got that), so that's why I was surprised to see one. I guess that they have been there all along and I just didn't notice. Apologies once again for the confusion.

Your mobile site has been serving ads that are ad2store without clicking quite frequently lately.  Seems to happen more on data than on wifi.  Where Google Play opens up to some random app.  I don't like logging in on my phone at all, and I'm just a regular member not a sub.

An example link that magically happens on Chrome for Android: in the source you can see it just does a market:// link in the body onload.

I've been getting this too! I click on neowin on chrome mobile, it closes, the google play store opens to a random game! I thought it was something wrong with my phone. Glad it's not just me! (No offense, btw)

I've noticed Google Play popping up for some front page news I read using the mobile chrome Web site lately. Most of the time it's for android games. I'm not opposed to ads, I just take exception for ones that completely overtake the site I'm visiting, such as neowin which is awesome. Keep up the good work!

Yea, these are getting to be a bit annoying and frequent.

The problem here isn't so much that there are ads when I'm not signed in (because I'd expect ads in that case), but that the mobile site seems incapable of keeping me logged in. This is annoying given the sign-in process on the mobile site is somewhat cumbersome. Every time I visit the site on my WP8.1 mobile (because the app is poor, to say the least), I have to sign in again. The non-mobile site does it occasionally too, and that has the annoying facebook logon then redirect to "page not found" error bug, but that's a different topic entirely.
