PS4 sells 1 million in UK

Recommended Posts

PS4 has sold 1m units in the UK, making it the second fastest selling home console of all time.

The machine reaches the figure after 42 weeks. Wii managed the same feat in 38 weeks.

By comparison, PS2 hit 1m in 50 weeks and Xbox 360 took 60 weeks to hit that target. PS3 was quite quick to 1m, selling to that number by week 46.

And UK MD Fergal Gara has told MCV that many of the customers that have picked up PS4 have come over from Xbox.

"We have certainly seen PS3 consumers come across quite hard and fast," he said.

"But a very significant proportion are people we have never seen on our network before. And from their behaviour and the types of games they are playing, it?s fairly clear that a big chunk of those have come across from Xbox, which is tremendous to see.

I've still no idea how PS3 sold that quickly considering the quarter it was released / price.

But congrats to them on this news

That surprised me too, but I think being made to wait a year after teh 360 kept the Sony fanbase keen and they probably jumped on board quickly. Can't remember how long after release I bought mine but I would imagine it was towards the tail end if not outside that period.

I was surprised about the PS3 as well but like I admitted myself in another topic coming off of the PS2 the dream was that the PS3 would be it and more. Many of us jumped onboard full of confidence, only to initially be let down. Hard fact to swallow after the PS2.

That and we all do need to remember the AV sector really did help Sony out to start with Blu Ray.

I think the blu-ray player helped also, it was one of the cheapest blu-ray playing devices on the market.

I had the Xbox 360 but eventually bought the PS3 mainly for the 3d blu-ray player. It was pretty late in the console cycle though when they said they would release 3d support as a firmware upgrade and I had just bought a 3D TV but I think on release it was one of very few devices that played blu-ray and it was similarly priced if not cheaper than most.

Sony has hit the ground running for sure. I'm not shock at all that it would be up there with best selling consoles of all time.

As far as the ps3 sales, I definitely think bluray helped. The ps3 was the cheapest and one of the best bluray players for a while after luanch.

That certainly makes it feel weird that it took Sony nearly a year to add full bluray support to the ps4 (as in 3d support).

The UK must be bored. :p

They're so bored with the U S A.

It's funny that Sony are even like "wtf, how come we are selling so many of these things!?"

Is it funny?

I don't know, it could also be seen as acting dumb for the sake of pr

It is probably some of that, but I think to some degree they are honestly surprised. Surprised in a happy way, no doubt, but surprised nonetheless.

Far, far from it. More games on my ps4 than I have time to play.

I did buy my ps4 in the UK before moving out to Dublin so my sale counts towards the sales :-)
