Preparing a toolbox, requesting tool suggestions

Recommended Posts

OK. So I decided that I need to make up a good toolbox with new tools. My current tool set is pretty much a hodge-podge of old, el cheapo, and worn out tools which, while usually do the job, aren't always as reliable as they should be. I mostly need them for PC maintenance, DIY, general home repairs.

So, I was hoping people on here could list what they believe are the essential, and perhaps recommended optional, tools for a good, reliable toolbox. Also, if you have brands that you are willing to recommend I'd also like to know those too.

Some of the obvious ones I've already decided on (people can recommend brands/sets for these if they wish)

  • Either a good set of Philips/flat-head screw drivers or a ratcheting screwdriver.
  • A variety of pliers (locking, needle-nose, combo, etc.)
  • Wire strippers
  • Utility knife
  • Staple gun

And that is about it. I'm sure there are others I am forgetting, I'll add them later if I think of them.

Torque wrenches, torque drivers, a good 1/4" bit set, set of 1/2" metric and standard sockets, set of 3/8" metric and standard sockets, set of 1/4" metric and standard sockets, ratchets (1/2", 3/8", 1/4"), ratcheting wrenches, multimeter (Fluke).

I've had quite a few Snap-On tools that have worked well for me and their warranty is pretty good as a mechanic.
