8-11" tablets with an AMOLED screen?

Recommended Posts

I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 but the black levels are poop (affects my movie watching), so I'm looking for a similar-sized tablet with an AMOLED screen.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Android but I don't want it to be an iOS tablet, they're too expensive for me.

What sort of prices are you looking at?

Other than movies what do you want it for? Games? Which games/types of games? Etc.

The best tablet I have ever used, including iPad, is the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. That thing is just incredible. They do an 8" model too, not used that one but if it is as good as the 10.5 it will be superb. Not sure if it is out of your budget or meets all your needs though?

You don't want AMOLED on a tablet that's going to be heavily used anyway. pixel burnout will become an issue quickly, far quicker than on a phone.

I know it can be an issue but I have owned several AMOLED display phones and tablets and never had any issue with image burn. The advantages are much greater than the possibility of image burn IMHO.

What advantages... there's no inherent advantage over slcd. Except AMOLED often have a green or blue tint.

Sure you get slightly darker blacks. But actual non dynamic contrast isn't as good and colors aren't as true, they just pop more, but that's due to the dynamic contrast.

Try and use an SLCD as a clock at night (which is what I do with my S5). The backlight is extremely frustrating.

Huh? The blacks are real blacks. Even on the best LCD they never get to that. Might not be a dealbreaker for normal use but you will definitely notice while watching most movies.

The color reproduction on AMOLED might not be the most accurate but I think you'll only care about that in image editing. For consuming (watching movies, playing games) the high contrast and vibrance gives it sort of an amazing look.

I don't think one is better than the other tho, just depends what you'll use the display for.

Actually, unless the room is completely dark, you wont notice a difference, even then, movies are one of the places you're least likely to notice a difference unless is a Star Wars space battle. The much larger true contractor a slcd will be more noticeable in a movie.

the amoled screen on my Samsung windows phone has the internet explorer address bar burned in. I see it on any bright image.
