Are The Super Nintendo's 15 Most Valuable Games Available For The Virtual Console?

Recommended Posts

Using the website videogames.pricecharting.com, we take a look at the Super Nintendo's 15 most valuable games and see how many of them are available on the Wii U's Virtual Console.

Referencing the list, many of the Super Nintendo's most valuable games are titles that will never come to the Virtual Console, and even if they did it wouldn't be much cause for celebration. Cartridges like Nintendo Powerfest 1994, Nintendo Campus Challenge 1992, Exertainment Mountain Bikerally Speed Racer, Donkey Kong Country Competition Edition, M.A.C.S. Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator, Starfox Super Weekend Competition, and the Burn-In/Test Cartridge were never widely produced or they were produced for use at a specific event or with a specific accessory, which is why they're nearly impossible to come by.

The titles on this list are games that were supposed to be big sellers that weren't able to find their audience when they released., but became popular later. The values below are for the complete versions of the game, as opposed to sealed/new copies of the game, which are worth significantly more.

Aero Fighters
value: ~ $2,500
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Hagane The Final Conflict
value: ~ $610
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Super Copa
value: ~ $230
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Nightmare Busters
value: ~ $140
This one is a little tricky, because I don't know if it really even belongs a spot on this list. It was a game that was in development during the Super Nintendo era, but got cancelled, and finally offically received release earlier this year. You can read more about it here.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Wild Guns
value: ~ $650
Announced only recently, Wild Guns is making its way to the Wii U Virtual Console on September 18, which is why there is an asterisk next to the yes below. It will be available next week.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? Yes*

Metal Warriors
value: ~ $695
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

EVO the Search for Eden
value: ~ $514
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

EarthBound
value: ~ $500
It was a long time coming, and the cause for much rejoicing, but EarthBound is finally available to purchase directly from Nintendo, as opposed to an eBay buyer. And it has aged very well.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? Yes

Mega Man X3

value: ~ $321
Another title that seemed like it should have been available on the Wii's Virtual Console (Mega Man X and X2 were), Mega Man X3 finally released a few weeks ago.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? Yes

Super 3D Noah's Ark
value: ~ $340
Another along the lines of Nightmare Busters, Super 3D Noah's Ark might not technically count on this list. It is an unlicensed Super Nintendo game that is hard to come by.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Mega Man 7
value: ~ $280
As of yesterday, Mega Man 7 is officially available for the Virtual Console.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? Yes

Castlevania Dracula X
value: ~ $400
Following the release of Mega Man X3 and EarthBound, this is arguably the next title that should have seen re-release awhile ago and will hopefully be coming soon.
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Harvest Moon

value: ~ $400
Is it available on the Virtual Console? Yes

Pocky and Rocky 2
value: ~ $360
Is it available on the Virtual Console? No

Capcom has confirmed that Demon's Crest is coming to the Wii U Virtual Console, though exactly when is still up in the air.

Not sure why anyone would pay so much to play these when they could just use an emulator.

Depends if you have the money and appreciate the nostalgic value. Also, sometimes it's more rewarding to have the original.

Wow are these prices for real? I have complete copies of Megaman 7, Megaman X2, Megaman X3, Aero Fighters, Earthbound, Dracula X, Harvest Moon and Pocky & Rocky 2. I used to collect these things back in the 90s but if they're worth something now, that's pretty cool.

makes the old parent argument of don't waste money on video games in the 90's sound hilarious now doesn't it? :woot:

My only question would be, how long will these cartridges actually continue to work? Won't they degrade over time?

less chance then an old cd from the ps1 era...

i think.   those cd are most likely to fail.

no idea on those SNES cartridges, but if stored without use, i assume they stay workable longer then early cds.

CMOS battery (if they had a save function) would go bad over time but they are replaceable.. the actual ROM on them should last a VERY long time... heck the old EEPROM's on Atari carts still work fine today and those were a lot less reliable then what Nintendo used
