macoman
Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice plans to argue in appealing his NFL suspension that the video of him punching out his then-fiancee was edited, according to ESPN. The video, obtained by TMZ, was a "cleaned-up, whittled down and condensed version of the events" that occurred in an Atlantic City casino elevator, Rice's legal team will reportedly claim. Rice was suspended indefinitely and the Ravens released him after video of him punching and knocking out Janay Palmer became public on Sept. 8. The incident occurred in February. The couple later married. Former FBI chief Robert Mueller was appointed by the NFL to lead an independent investigation of how the league handled Rice's discipline. The NFL initially suspended Rice for just two games, which drew widespread criticism for being too lenient. Commissioner Roger Goodell changed the terms of the ban after the video went public. Friday, ESPN's "Outside the Lines" reported a pattern of misinformation and misdirection fueled by the Ravens and the NFL since the incident occurred. The Ravens plan to address the report's claims early this week. LightEco
If that video was the "cleaned-up" version, I'd hate to see the full thing. TPreston, Shiranui, RedOak and 2 others 5 Share

chrisj1968
there has been a lot of talk about goodell being removed. I wouldn't be surprised that someone is waiting in the wings to take over the commissioner job.
DocM
Goodell was an idiot not to jump on this with both feet at the outset, even without the effing film. Condi Rice would make a good Commissioner as she's said she wanted that job for ages. She's a huge fan of the sport. If she prefers that to running for President, give it to her. spenser.d
Goodell's not going anywhere. The owners love him and he's done a great job at making the league (and/or the 32 owners) a boatload of money. People aren't going to stop watching football because of this so he'll wait it out as he does any other controversy (something he's used to). As for Ray Rice, it's astounding to me that he thinks that argument makes a difference. In the end he still knocked his to-be wife out and dragged her out of an elevator. Doesn't really matter what lead up to it, unless you think she somehow became a threat to him in some way we weren't shown.

macoman
I think Ray Rice is clearly a low life thug and his wife a puppet of him. A woman that respect herself will have already leave his ass long time ago. The funny thing is he knocked her out, dragged her like a dead animal and she have the balls to this day to defend him after all this... It's crazy, she's such a tool for him. chrisj1968
False. On many levels. actually it isn't. however, I think where you are coming from if you'll indulge me, he's a celebrity involved in a big scandal. as far as I'm concerned, he's a prim a donna. Got paid big money and thought he'd be too big to get away with it. in my opinion, Ray Lewis got over big time when that murder scandal came out. however, he wasn't found guilty or charges were never brought up... my memory fails me though. pack34
So, he didn't punch her? A lot could have happened before that. Heck, in the clip that I saw she was lunging at him when he hit her. Was she being verbally and physically abusive towards him before he snapped?

She does not have the body of a muscular and strong man like Ray Rice. RedOak, DirtyLarry and hagjohn 3 Share

While I agree that a man of his stature should never have fought a woman like this, it's outdated thinking on both genders part to think that a woman can never be to blame for a domestic incident. It's ALWAYS the man who must take the high road, however it takes two to tango. Domestic violence groups need to show this video every single time for the next 100 years. They need to tell women, you don't need a man like this, you can do better, you can always leave, etc. However they need to also remind women that your man is still a MAN and if you intentionally try to push his buttons, you might push the wrong one and you're going to lose that physical fight every single time. Only someone with masochistic tendencies will allow a man to knock her out and still married him and have kids like nothing ever happened before. DocM
> Domestic violence groups need to show this video every single time for the next 100 years. They need to tell women, you don't need a man like this, you can do better, you can always leave, etc. > There's the rub in this; it isn't always men who are the abuser. Many studies have shown women are almost as likely to be abusers as men, and because most men have been trained "never hit girls/women" they don't and suffer through it just like passive women. If they do complain they risk ridicule, having their manhood challenged by peers etc. This goes WAY beyond just being p/w'd. There's also another aspect; abusive stepchildren. In many cases they lash out at the step-parent and their natural parent let's it happen. This can be due to co-abuse or fear the brat will turn on them as well. Sex is irrelevant here too. I've seen its aftermath up close over the years, and its just as ugly whichever gender the abuser is. Both sexes can be the 'stay from fear/low self esteem victim.' Some eventually leave, some suffer in silence, and others become family annihilators - attacking their victimizers and everyone else in range. Domestic abuse programs and campaigns need to be a lot less female-centric and tackle it from both sides.
