WSJ: HTC getting ready to launch Nexus 9 tablet

If you’re excited about the Nexus line of devices we have some good news for you, as HTC is working on the new Nexus 9 tablet, which might be launching in the near future.

The Wall Street Journal has confirmed previous rumors that pointed toward the Taiwanese manufacturer as the OEM of this year’s Nexus tablet. Citing “people familiar with the matter” the report mentions that HTC execs have been meeting with Google in the recent months to works on the Nexus 9 project.

The Nexus line of devices offers a clean Android experience while highlighting what the platform is capable of. In recent generations the Nexus line has also been focusing on device affordability leading to decent sales numbers and general approval from reviewers.

The Nexus 7 line of tablets, which until now has been built by Asus, have garnered the most praise for their low price but high quality. As such Asus saw its profits soar back in 2012 when it originally launched the device.

Perhaps HTC, which has been struggling financially for a long time now, is hoping the new 9-inch Nexus tablet will do the same for it. The company hasn’t released a Nexus device since 2010 when they launched the Nexus One smartphone.

The Nexus 9 tablet is expected to be launched alongside the new version of Google's OS, Android L, sometime in October.
