roosevelt
Hi, I have an Alienware Laptop and a Macbook Pro. On my Macbook Pro there are two thunderbolts, one HDMI output and on my Alienware Laptop I have a mini-Display-port and a direct HDMI output. Both monitors support HDMI :) To view my Alienware Laptop I have it hooked up to one of the HDMI outputs and the other one to a mini-display-port to HDMI converter. Works Great! And the MBP works great since I have two thunderbolt to HDMI converter. As you can see it can become tedious to plug-n-unplug and I believe it also affects the longevity of the ports too. Is there a bridge/switch of some kind that will allow me to toggle between the two? So, when I am on my Macbook, it will show my Macbook screen on the two monitors and when I'm on my Alienware, it will show the Windows screen. I tried GoToMyPC and RDP but the performance loss is unbearable. I did look into some switches but I'm not sure if they will allow me to accomplish what I'm after. Any suggestions? Mindovermaster Moderator Posted September 23, 2014 Moderator Share Posted September 23, 2014 You can always use KVM's, but i don't think they would work in your case.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted September 23, 2014 Veteran Share Posted September 23, 2014 I think in theory you can do it, but it will not be cheap. Basically If you go HDMI and Mini Display Port to DVI it would be possible with this. So for your straight HDMI outs on your laptop, you would need these cables. For your mini display ports on your laptops you would need these cables. Then you could use those first cables to go out from the switch to your monitors HDMI. I think that would actually work, but between the switch and all of the cables, you are looking at around $400 give or take. Keep in mind that was the first switch I found, so there may be cheaper out there.
