Can't access a website - Proxy works

Recommended Posts

I have a client that i'm trying to figure out why non of the machines on their network can access http://www.worlds-away.com while they can from mobile devices (on 3G) and I can from my laptop on another network just fine as well.

Here is a tracert from them to worlds-away.com

Here is one from me to the same site:

Seems they webserver/router is blocking the IP address or what? I thought it was DNS server but they both resolve the same address so I dunno what else! :ermm:

So do they use a proxy on their site? Need to validate that the proxy can resolve the address.

Or your saying if they use a proxy it works? It is possible they have a network issue between them and the site. Notice how their trace does a loop on hops 14 and 15 to the same place. Their IP could be blocked by that site, etc.

Yeah using proxysite.ws or any other works just fine so I was thinking the IP address is blocked on the server itself but I don't know why. They are a client of them and spend tons of money there!

Another idea, could I do a static route via a VPN (Gateway to gateway) between to RV082 routers?

Basically it would look like this:

Client machine - router - internet (PPTP VPN - Gateway to Gateway) - router - Internet - Worlds-away.com

The routers are connected because the same owner owns both businesses so he can access systems on either LAN.

Here's the route I set but I have no idea with this one :P

The routers are connected? You have a routing loop then maybe.

Are you doing nat and trying to access the public IP? Can you draw up these sites and how they are interconnected? If they are connection you sure should not have to go out 15 hops ;)

Is this website on the local network?

No the site is on the web, not local.

I was thinking it's possible to route all traffic through the other routers WAN port or just traffic for that IP.

So for the lazy man stuff (long day and it's already 8pm here):

First is RV082 with a LAN of 192.168.2.1 and WAN of 96.66.56.xxx

Second RV082 with LAN of 192.168.0.1 and WAN of 79.127.157.xxx

Those 2 routers are linked together via a Gateway to Gateway VPN.

So systems on 2.1 net can talk to 0.1 and vice versa (not very fast but that shouldn't matter :p)

Just trying to see if it was possible to force the router to route traffic over the VPN to the gateway of the 79.127 router instead.

you can route traffic to the IP that is on 192.168.2.0/24 sure, and vice versa - but not to public IPs

So if the webserver lets say on 192.168.2.14, and somebody on 192.168.0.72 wants to talk to it - then sure you could route that traffic over the vpn vs over the public internet to 96.66.56.xxx and then that router forwarding it into 192.168.2.14

well if you have a vpn connection and can access 192.168.2.0/24 then if you know what the ip address of the server is you should be able to hit it with that 192.168.2.x address

You can do a traceroute to 192.168.2.1 ?
