If you are like many of the readers of Neowin, you likely downloaded the technical preview of Windows Ten. If you did not, you can go here for the direct download links for both flavors of the OS.
Now that you have your fancy new Start menu back, there is a good chance that you will want to customize it to your liking. One of the new features that comes with Windows 10 is the ability to change the background color of the Start menu to offer a deeper level of personalization.
To change the background color of your Start menu you need to change the theme of Windows 10.
- Right mouse click on the desktop and click 'Personalize'
- Click 'Color' near the bottom center of the open window
- Select a color
- Hit Save
That's it, once you hit Save, this will change the color of your Start menu. The default, at this time, is that the Start menu color will sync with your background. If you want to go back to the automatic selection, open the window where you select the color and in the top left, the color pallet icon will turn automatic selection back on.
If the default colors are not your thing, you can create your own colors using the color mixer below the color selector. To create your own color, drag the hue, saturation and brightness sliders to the desired location to create your own custom accent color.
This is one small way that you can customize Windows 10 to your style and we look forward to seeing if Microsoft adds more features like this as the OS approaches RTM.
