AmazingRando
Was there a forced update or something last night to Belkin routers? Just went thru 10 customers with Belkin's that are getting a valid WAN IP, but no internet access. Bypass them and the connection is fine. Anyone else see similar issues? Don't think its Belkin persay. I have a Netgear with a Motorola Surfboard modem and I've been having issues. Are your customers on Comcast? AmazingRando
Looks like maybe a potential DDOS on heartbeat.belkin.com which makes the routers think they're not online even though they are.

Are your customers on Comcast? The issue I am talking about is Belkin routers. Especially any new models. Past about 80 of them personally so far this morning. No news out of Belkin in any regard. Haggis Veteran Posted October 7, 2014 Veteran Share Posted October 7, 2014 http://www.myce.com/news/belkin-router-users-worldwide-unable-to-connect-to-the-internet-73019/ Belkin has stated it?s aware of the issue and in the process of fixing it. The most plausible cause of the issue appears to be that the router outage is caused by the downtime of the Belkin website. Belkin routers ping heartbeat.belkim.com frequently to diagnose themselves and also that URL is not reachable. heartbeat is refusing connections
AmazingRando
We found a solution. Change the DNS entry for heartbeat.belkin.com and point it to the same DNS server or any box that will respond to ICMP traffic. Give them a reboot and they think they're back online. AmazingRando
Just FYI. Belkin has solved this problem by re-adding a range of addresses to answer heartbeat thru their cloud provider. Official response: One of our cloud services associated with maintaining router operations was negatively impacted by a change made in our data center that caused a false denial of service. Normal operations were restored by 3PM PST, however, some users might still be required to reset their router and/or cable modem to regain connectivity. Moving forward, we will continue to monitor, improve and validate the system to ensure our routers continue to work properly in the event connectivity to our cloud environment is not available. The interesting thing about this is, if the Belkin router fails reaching heartbeat.belkin.com why does the router pack all it's toys and go home? Sure the resolution to the domain is handy at helping to identify possible problems, Apple and Microsoft and others do this same thing. But Belkin routers, fail to flow traffic at all when this failure has been detected. Hopefully they fix this in the next firmware. goretsky 1 Share
