mahirh
I can understand Samsung using Magnesium chassis in their galaxy line But why would anybody want a metal back phone? Any metal-backed phone feels only as premium as the case you put on it (Winter is coming). In return for a cold, shiny back, you get1. worser reception: WiFi and lte2. no NFC3. No wireless charging4. Cant replace batteries (most cases)5. You've got to be wary of damaging the finish, you could dent it.Thus, the whole metal trend, frankly speaking, is ridiculous. They also happen to be very expensive to manafacture.
Draconian Guppy
I don't see how metal back worsens WIFI and LTE as antennas can get a way out (htc one m7 m8, iphone 5, 5s and now 6, the m8 and i6 have nfc as well) 3,4,5 that happens on polycarbonate phones (lumias, lg g2)

Metal is best ... dent is nothing... plastic cracks based on what type of plastic... depends on how hard you throw your phone at the wall or floor. Aye, those "tough" cases really get to me... slick cases offer just as much protection without ruining the phones appearance. In all honesty, those rugged cases are for a niche market: Firemen, cops or any other labor intensive work that might result in one dropping the phone, well them and really careless people :P +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share

SharpGreen
In a lot of cases metal phones use part of that metal back for the cell/wifi anntenna, so I don't see where you get poor reception from.

ATLien_0
Even though aluminum dents easy psychologically for the consumer it feels more premium than plastic. The only true premium plastic phones that come to my mind are the one piece poly carbonate Lumia or iPhone 5c line. I work in the case industry, and the biggest thing we see is that we sell more clear cases or minimal cases on aluminum phones like the iPhone or HTC one. For the Samsung line we generally see more of the colored or rugged cases, more people seem to want to cover up the samsung plastic than show it off Draconian Guppy 1 Share
conna
I want the case to be made out of sapphire. The back case and front screen, and since I am dreaming, please make the PCB out of sapphire as well.

tsupersonic
I prefer these premium build quality phones with metal. You can have a metal phone with NFC - HTC One M7/M8, iPhone 6/6+ are examples. The reception on these phones are just fine, and are generally overblown by [samsung] fanboys. I've yet to experience worse signal compared to non-metal phones. Wireless charging is nice to have, but I don't even use it. It's definitely not mainstream, but would be nice to see it take off. Battery technology has improved - we are seeing bigger capacity batteries, as well as software optimization, which results in longer run times. Not a problem for the majority of consumers. You can just also dent a phone that's not made of metal. Invalid point. Your points are weak at best, but everyone's requirements of a phone are different, so YMMV. I usually have my phones out of case - just nicer that way, and I'm very careful. I have yet to have a drop that was devastating to the phone. PNWDweller
I have an HTC M7 which has a metal back. As I keep my phone in the same pocket as my keys (other pocket as a pocket knife, a folding hand tool, coins and misc items, it is much safer there in the pocket with keys, I have an Incipio case on it. It beefed up the appearance of the phone, doubled it's width, but has proven itself at least once. You can drop your phone easily, with or without bad wrists, and so forth. For a while, I juggled two cell phones (my personal one and a work one), on my job and a laptop bag getting out of the car, sometimes things just pop out of your hand if you are in a hurry. The case on my M7 absorbed the drop quite well with no marks or damage. Another time I had the phone out, using it as a flashlight while working on my car engine, it went flying off the front of the car when I bumped it. Down it went SLAM! to the ground, no damage. If I had not had a cover, I am pretty certain, a few scratches would have come to it. Furthermore, a dent or two might have come to it. Since I like to keep my phone looking new, I prefer to have a case on it for protection. Of course, when I get in the mood to release it from it's Incipio cage, I remove it and admire the awesome slimness and shiny look it possesses. :)
