Why do .exe files load so slow when there a lot in one folder now ? Windows 8

This is my last question I promise. I have a lot of application exe in one folder and they all take forever to load their icon now. It wasn't like this in Windows 7. Why is this ?

What OS are you running? What hardware do you have? What changes have you made to your hardware? Have you run a virus check? Do you have a bad hard drive? There could be many factors playing into this.
