Apps from unknown sources

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've got two questions here on the same topic, first one which is the most simple, Do you allow apps from unknown sources or do you only ever allow things from Google Play?

So far, I've had other sources disabled, maybe being a little over protective but I've seen it as a small step in security to try and prevent stuff getting installed. I don't know how much this would actually work if something did attempt to install but that's what I've always hoped. However it looks like with Humble Bundle app's, it needs this turned off which leads to my second question.

If I was to allow alternate sources, download and install and app and then re-enable it, would the app continue to function? I believe the answer is yes but I don't want to try something and really break the phone just so I can try a game that I'm only trying because its free.

To install amazon's apps store, you have to allow it.

Some andirod builds (Samsung Galaxy) prompt to enable once, then after the app does it's thing, unknown is disabled.

I myself, trust the humble bundle app.

The apps would contiune to function, it only has to be allowed to install after unknown is disabled.

(Edit) The first time you run this, google will ask if you would like it to analyze / look at the app as well.

Yes, the app will still function. I have had external sources enabled for years and never had a problem.  If you keep the Verify option enabled, that will also alert you when something tries to install.
