W10 TP: Have File Explorer open to This PC

Recommended Posts

Simply paste the following into a new shortcut:

explorer shell:::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d}

You can then pin this to the taskbar, and unpin the default File explorer shortcut.

Even if you leave the existing shortcut, this does not create duplicate taskbar icons when you run it.

Note that this is not new to Windows 10. AFAIK, you could do this as far back as Vista.

The following, however, is new to Windows 10:

From what I've seen so far, anything that is in the start menu, can be pinned to the taskbar.

Therefore, any item or location (even "Network"!) you want to pin to the taskbar, simply pin it to the Start Menu first, then right click it in the Start Menu and select "Pin to taskbar".

I can't get this to work as described.

When I create the new shortcut and pin it to the Taskbar, it still opens a secondary icon for the actual Explorer window...

You can also open File Explorer, in the left Navigation Pane, drag the This PC icon to the Desktop then drag the This PC shortcut on Desktop to Taskbar.

Seems like a lot of steps but takes 2 seconds without having to create a new shortcut.
