Amazon Streaming why only 480p

Recommended Posts

Try changing User Agent to other mobile device, if it works then great.

How do I do that please?

Which browser you use? I don't know for sure, whether it will work or not but IMO it at least worth a try.

Firefox

Install that Addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-overrider/

Add Useragents from this wiki: https://github.com/muzuiget/user_agent_overrider/wiki

Only add relevant device like iPhone, Amazon Kindle Useragent etc, which device you think gets 720p or above stream and try Amazon and let us know.

Found this as well so supposedly you can't stream over 480p on the PC. That sucks.

Stupid if you ask me.

If you cannot get any more than 480, then it might be the gfx card driver issue.. Try to update your gfx card driver and try again..

If not working, then get a new gfx card or a new PC.

Thanks

Do let us know later on and also look for Shozilla tip. Whats your GPU and driver?

If you can post dxdiag -> Display tab screenshot, it would be helpful.

It just links to my Amazon prime account and works in HD The Sopranos. It even says HD.

Where my pc it only says 480p.

I have the same issue but I know the cause of it.

My PC plays only 480 because my GFX and monitor are connected by DisplayPort. Issue goes away whenever i change it to HDMI cable.

Weird but works....Dunno though if thats the same case for you.

Nice work around but strange as well.. :D

That must be it! Thanks.

Try it and let us know...

- Another plausible  reason could be MSE + EME support on Firefox and only basic profile support of H.264 through Open H.264. You should give Chrome try.
