Freeze upon entry of full screen apps

Recommended Posts

Everything will freeze except the mouse, if you alt tab then ctrl alt delete you may be able to use task manager to close the app, and if you haven't bsod crashed already, closing the app also seems to crash it, it doesn't crash every time but it does often.

You will also hear the apps audio, or sometimes the audio loops.

Geforce Experience hangs for a couple minutes.

A few apps do work in full screen, like Titanfall, upon exit it will except normally but then send a crash report anyways.

Half the apps work in borderless window windows 8 compatibility mode.

Exiting AOE3 borderless window gives a bsod crash.

I was experiencing similar issue on my Dell XPS 9530 laptop.  I noticed that IE(Desktop version) metro apps were stuttering before opening.  Even clicking on the search icon or task view icon was causing it. I fixed it by disabling the NVidia card in device manager.  There are known issues with NVidia drivers at the moment.

I found the solution and posted it at: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/779136/geforce-drivers/windows-10-technical-preview-display-driver-feedback-thread/post/4339279/#4339279 here's a copy paste of my soloution. Please mark this as solved and select this as the solution.

Hello, for most issues, I've found the solution.

  1. Right click "Geforce experience" in the taskbar
  2. Click exit
  3. Navigate to "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Control Panel Client"
  4. Right click "nvcplui.exe"
  5. Left click properties
  6. Click the compatibility tab
  7. Click the checkbox below "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
  8. Click ok
  9. Run the program

This fixed: the hang upon entering/exiting applications, DirectX applications black screening, failing to launch and crashing.
