Android Fragmentation vs WP fragmentation

Question

Which fragmentation is worst and why?

Also is Windows Phone fragmented?

I mean by fragmentation the issue that when the company releases an update of the OS nobody can update it as soon as possible and the customer needs to wait until the provider example: Samsung adapts the version to their phone models and then probably wait for the carriers as well.

Is this going to change with Android L and Windows 10?

Fragmentation is only bad to those who actually know what it is and people who like to rag on something.  Most users will not care, or even know, what version of the OS they are on as long as what they use, work properly.  The average user does not know, or care, to update desktop Windows and mobile phones are no different.

Be surprised how many XP systems I see still running SP2 or no SP at all.  Same goes with Vista and I have seen many systems with no SP1 for Win7.  And yes, we are talking about mobile devices...just using this as an example of how users do not care, or just oblivious.

Pretty much sums that up! Fragmentation is for us geeks who care about enough.

Most Android users don't even upgrade they just use what ever the phone came with.  iOS users generally upgrade. I don't know about windows phone users.

Most Android users don't upgrade because they can't.  Google have left them in the lurch.  iOS upgrade statistics have been generally good although iOS8 adoption has been slow.  WP upgrade statistics are generally good too.

With the way Google Play Services works, along with the fact that core app updates are done outside of OS updates, Android "fragmentation" is quickly becoming quite a misnomer.
