LED Television Grey Orb

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Within the last year I purchased a Samsung LED for my room to use for the PC when watching films etc. I've recently noticed a grey orb which is appearing at the bottom of the screen.

I originally thought that it may be related to a setting but I can notice it in the the televisions menu and various other embedded applications (without any external source input) .

When I'm watching a film I barely notice it due to the colours but if I'm watching a YouTube video with a white background it's very difficult to miss it and is in fact eye catching.

I thought about it being burn in, but I rarely leave anything with the same image on the screen.

I have attached a screenshot.

Any idea on what it may be? If you need any further details, please just ask. :)

Edit:

Posted using Tapatalk and for some reason the screenshot didn't upload.

LED went out, which causes a dark spot... you have to have it serviced or replaced.

Side LED lit screens have them in groups lining the edge, if one bulb or a section of them goes out you get this effect in the area it was lighting

If it is in warranty I would get a replacement. I had a Samsung TV and exactly one month after warranty expiring half the screen stopped working.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

I was dreading that was going to be the answer Neufuse. I just chucked the box for the television a month ago after clearing out the loft.

I purchased in Feb this year so it should still be under warranty.

Does anyone know what Samsung's support is like? I'm not looking forward to this rigmarole. :(

Ghosts in the tube :shiftyninja:

Aha, I do sincerely hope not. ;)

I have made contact with the Samsung service department. Fingers crossed it will be a smooth process.

It now flickers and dissappears during most attempts at turning the television on.

I hope this doesn't cause problems with Samsung when sending it in. They didn't feel me with confidence when speaking to them on the phone. I've got to wait for an 'engineer' to phone me now and discuss the problem further before I can organise for it to be sent to them and be repaired.

I've also dealt with Samsung warranty and they do their very best to avoid sending an engineer out, but it's within your right to do so, so just stand firm ;) My 40" TV had a backlight issue and was eventually picked up; after a couple of back and forth emailing (I had to photograph the problem and send the images via email) but it did take around two and a half weeks in total! (no (temporary) replacement either, but that is also within your right, I didn't need a replacement).

Thanks for the reply Steven.

Phoned them today (after being promised a phone call by 12pm which I didn't receive) and was made to upgrade the firmware (which we all knew would amount to nothing).

Once I explained what the problem is again to this person and told them I could see the flickering in the TV menu, she gave me the details of the nearest authorised repair centre. Apparently anything below 40" you can take yourself.

It is now in television hospital. :)

A little update:

Just contacted the local accredited service centre and enquired about what they have found.

He said the screen itself is faulty and needs replacing. I queried about the LEDs and was told these are attached with the screen, so you need to replace the whole unit.

The gentleman also stated that it's more likely the filter which has gone and is causing a problem.
